miss2
Hi everyone. Yesterday I gave my 11year old schnauzer advantix as we have come down the coast. I have just noticed he has had a severe reaction to it. He has come out all over his body in welts and bruising. I think it's bruising, it's huge big blood red patches on his neck, stomach and ears.it is particularly bad on his shoulders and down his neck. I gave my other 2 the same dose and they are fine. He doesn't seem in pain or distressed by it but it's getting worse I rang the vet and they said to just monitor his breathing. Has anyone heard of this, have any ideas.? I'm so worried
Vickie
I would take him to the vet, if not tonight, first thing in the morning. Eta, after googling reactions to advantix (and there are heaps of different reactions documented), many suggest washing them with detergent, it may not help given how long he's had it on, but something to consider? Erny
Here's a link to a thread by someone else who has a dog who suffered a reaction to the Advantix as well. Bayer Advantix Side Effects If you search the health forum, you'll find there are others. I'd take note of the suggestion in the above linked thread to wash your dog thoroughly, if it is still inside 24 hours since you applied the Advantix. I believe there is a Bayer Help Line you can also ring, although I'd have my doubts that there'll be anyone there to answer over the Easter period . persephone
sounds a fairly severe reaction. I hope the vet can help him tonight .
schnauzer
Agree Persephone. My dog had a similar reaction and the bruising and welting was vasculitis. I would advise vet tonight. Edited April 6, 2012 by schnauzer
