supercharged
Ok so I have a litter planned and have decided that I would like have the puppies desexed before they leave me. After carefull research I am going for tubal ligations and vasectomies, however I cannot seem to find a vet in North Queensland who is prepared to help. Can anyone provide contact details for vets who are prepared to do juvenile desexing? I am prepared to travel. :)

supercharged
Missymoo, I have just finished a heated discussion with vet nurse up here who told me I was doing the wrong thing by the pups and the new owners. I have my reason with a rare breed - would you rather my breed contributes to the overpopulation and BYB? Apparently I am being irresponsible - *Sigh*.....end of conversation with her! Off to call some more vets in towns further away tomorrow...
Missymoo
See this peeves me off...we are 'irresponsible..but crappy byb that do it for a buck, etc are not.. Mmmmmm my guess is you have a new vet clinic..
Saffioraire
I had a discussion with a Vet in Victoria who is considered one of the leading in Australia for reproduction, and he advised me that the best place to go for TL etc is a vet in Adelaide. Not many people do it, especially on puppies so young. Meanwhile Good on you for considering this path instead of opting for early sterilisation. Especially if you have a medium-large breed, it does make a big difference (a converted sceptic!)
supercharged
Thanks for the support guys! I am soooo just over the state of veterinary care up here, I am expected to pay $650 for a medium breed hip/elbow x-ray for scoring but the same in Brisbane is around $350?? Are you kidding me , I will travel to brisbane just to prove a point! C'mon! I'll have a holiday at the same time lol! ;)
Kaffy Magee
How far north are you? I gave all my puppies vasectomies/ tubals in 2010 when I was still in Victoria. I moved to qld and need to arrange one for a boy I had run on but decided to rehome. The responses varied from all the vet clinics I rang, most wouldn't do it ( I'm on the Fraser coast) but there were a few who would and prices varied from 1000 to 400 down to 170. In Victoria I only paid 170 and the vet had told me it's not much different to neuter just more fiddlier, so I could not believe the $1000 quote, I think they wanted me to desex instead so were trying to put me off. so I went with the $170 option in bundaberg. The boy came out just fine. And the pups were like nothin had happened straight after I bought them home, it didn't knock them around like it does with the older ones plus the incisions are much smaller. supercharged
Hi Kaffy, I am inbetween Mackay and Townsville. I have a quote from townsville from ANOTHER vet who will only do full speys for $220 - $260 (dogs and bitches respectively). But nothing yet on TL and V's... I rang my vet but they didn't do the procedure. I can't seem to locate the particular thread at the moment but if I remember correctly in Victoria it was Monash and also a vet in Bairnsdale. With regard to the other states I can't remember exactly where. Sorry I can't be of more help but if I find the original thread I will repost it
