Blind Dogs

Wizard is a 5 month old blind coolie, well socialised with other dogs, cats, children. He has been in foster care since he was about 6 weeks old. Already has had standard vet work done ie desexed, vaccinated etc. He has also had some basic obedience work with a delta trainer. Heather need advice from people who have had experience with rehoming special needs dogs and as you will read below the lady who is interested in Wiz has a dog wo will become blind

"question: Has anyone had, or has known anyone who has had, experience with having two blind dogs together? I have a lady enquiring about Wizard, and their Labrador has just been diagnosed with PRA ( very sad) and will be losing his sight anywhere from the next 6 months to 2 years. I thought that if this boy can see for now, that once he goes blind, he and Wiz could have become great mates and rely on each other for the company. But I am unsure. I would love to hear from anyone who may have been in this situation, or has known someone who has..I want to do the right thing for this lady, her boy and Wizard"

I wouldn't imagine two blind dogs together are any different that two seeing eye dogs? As long as they are treated no differently compared to if they weren't blind (within reason).

My boy that has gone blind now acts no differently around my girl who still has her sight. Their interaction regarding sight means nothing in the scheme of things.

Curious to read others experiences.

I agree I don't think Wizard will have any problems with his blindness, and having a sighted dog that will go blind in the future may be a bonus, as they will help each other.

Archie is my only ever vision impaired dog, Other than him running into you or constantly sniffing everything, he has been no different to any other dog I have owned. We do keep things exactly as they are to help him, but he is given so extra attention.

I hope this lady can give Wizard a good home, tell Ker I have my fingers crossed for him.
