juice
I was reading our local paper last night, and front page news is where dangerous dogs are kept in Blacktown. The Advocate said they had asked council for a list of the owners who have them, apparently not public information, thank goodness. They wanted to expose their address's for the good of the public My take is that its a witch hunt, these dogs may have done nothing wrong other than being the breed they are, so why should the public know where they are? I have had my fair share of abuse from people when i go walking my BT, just ramdom shouting etc. I would hate to think what might happen if i had a restricted breed and my adress was given out in the press. They want to know if the public think its their right to know where theses dogs are being kept, i certainly will be telling them what i think! And what a surprise, a boxer is the pic in the online article. Edited March 13, 2012 by juice

megan_
Dangerous dogs are different that restricted breeds. A dog can only be declared dangerous after it has done something.

Maxiewolf
I thought In N.S.W that a regulated sign had to be displayed on the premises stating that a dangerous dog is kept on the property, in addition to the bright danger collar on the dog...that should be enough "Safety"... why the heck would anyone need to know where "Dangerous" dogs live? Would be more like advertising for those running dog fighting rings to know where to potentially try and steal their next victims from without having to drive round looking for the signs. That's like asking the council to print a list of everyone who owns a swimming pool so you know not where to leave your children unsupervised so they don't fall in. Whippetsmum
Imagine the Vigilantes.....there'd be a spate of dog poisonings. If council allow the Advocate to publish a list, they could have a lot of blood on their hands.

Bl**dy idiots! I can still see the boxer pic in the side area on the lower right hand side of the page.
mac'ella
So why dont they also put up a list of dangerous people in the area.that would be more beneficial to the community
dancinbcs
In NSW, premises that house a declared dangerous dog do have to display a sign to that effect so why would the info need to printed anywhere. It doesn't apply to restricted breeds though and if they are kept under the required conditions it shouldn't be necessary. The biggest problem is all the restricted breeds that are not registered and owned by morons.

Unregistered dogs of any breed owned by morons are a problem.

Most of the dogs in my district must be unregistered then because I have never seen one of the signs but have seen plenty of red nose PBs that I assume are not Amstaffs due to the colour. Pure bred SBTs are so rare around here that I really noticed when I saw one being walked recently.
melzawelza
They aren't necessarily unregistered, they could be chipped & registered as something else and not have come under scrutiny by Council, or may have been breed assessed as having no pit bull or a pit x (which is not restricted if it passes a temp test). A dog is not restricted (and therefore needing to comply with restrictions) in NSW unless it has failed a breed assessment/temp test or been chipped as a pure bred American pit bull terrier.
