scrappynsuzie
Hi i have single puppy who is now 2 weeks old. My concern is socializing him. How do other's, with single puppies socialize them. I know he is still too young to socialise, but in the next few weeks, when he would have had other littermates to play and fight with, he has no-one, except his stuffed toys and his mother. Advise would be appreciated.
LizT
Hi i have single puppy who is now 2 weeks old. My concern is socializing him. How do other's, with single puppies socialize them. I know he is still too young to socialise, but in the next few weeks, when he would have had other littermates to play and fight with, he has no-one, except his stuffed toys and his mother. Advise would be appreciated. I had a singleton Cavalier last November. We spent a lot of time playing puppets with her and her "litter mates". My OH was the Puppet master with this and incited most games with her. Lots of bumping and jumping on etc. I found her mother and the two other Cavalier girls also played well with her as she got older as they are a gentle breed. Andisa
My singleton Pug is almost 2 years old time flies... I did as Liz said, just play lots with him and try to imitate the stimulation that other litter mates would do. I used toys and my hands to gently push, climb and shove off the boob/bottle and around the box. Your lucky the mum can feed the pup and take care of him - I would have loved that. Maverick was hand raised since his mother seemed confused after her em c section (Mav's boof head was stuck and his 2 litter mates died) and didn't show any interest in him and refused to feed him, she dried up soon after. Maverick has matured in to a stubborn shit of a dog - very independent, loving but a handful. I get regular threats that I will come home to find him in my backyard but haven't yet  . I almost lost Maverick when he had aspiration pneumonia at a couple of weeks old, it was a struggle to keep him alive and the 2 weeks of twice daily injections was a huge set back to his confidence and he eventually learned to trust others. I have hand raised lots of lambs, calves and a foal but the pug pup was the hardest of all, maybe I was too emotionally involved and because he was so sick, but I went grey quickly over Maverick.. Just enjoy your puppy but try not to spoil him too much :D. Edited May 4, 2012 by Andisa
scrappynsuzie
Thanks to LizT and Andisa for your replies. Mum has been a dotting mum, and hardly leaves the box except, for short outside visits only. May be because she lost 4 puppies and she knows this one is special. They were born at day 58 by emergency ceasar, so I suppose we are lucky that we have one puppy and we didn't loose mum as well. I have noticed with other litters where there were at least 3 puppies, she would leave them for extended times away but not this time..It is as if she knows he needs her there. Grand mother is now allowed to visit and babysit, up until two days ago mum would not let her near, so that is another positive. Kid rock is now 3 weeks old and is a little porker. We have moved the box and pen out to the family room now, so that he can used to all the different sounds and smells. Thanks again
bordacollies4me
Well how time flies when your having fun... Can't believe it is almost 9 months since i welcomed this little man into the world :) It has been a fun 9 months thats for Sure... I was lucky enough that there was a litter of BC puppies just 5 days older than him, so from just under 4 weeks of age we went visiting every week for some socializing... Thought i would share a few pics of him here he is just free standing at 7months and some from a few weeks ago, taken at Tin Can Bay With his Dam - Coco and my other new addition.. Decoy (in the middle) and a group shot minus the puppy...

bordacollies4me
Thanks, yes I didn't expect his white to fade so much, but I really do like a dark face... I think he is definetly worth the effort of importing semen :) And yes I would have to agree about my Mr Handsome Pants -Focus :) Love the pics of Logic....
