Well, I don't think any limits on the amount of litters a bitch is allowed are supposed to target the responsble and ethical breeders who get their dogs health checked every time before covering etc.

I think they are aimed at those people who will try to raise two litters a year from a bitch, no matter what, ignoring any health concerns or even signs from the bitch that she has had enough..

How is it even possible for a bitch to have 2 litters per year??????

No idea but I seem to have read a blog that was linked on here a couple of days ago where some poodle was having something like 9 litters in 4 or 5 years. I do not see how that is possible unless they managed on average two a year?

I will go look for the link

I do not believe it is possible for a bitch to have 2 litters a year, especially on a consistent basis

They are pregnant for 9 weeks so that would make them pregnant for 18 weeks a year if they have 2 litters. If they cycle every 6 months then it isn't possible for a bitch to have more than one litter a year.

I can't seem to find the thread on DOL that lead me to this blog, but here is the blog anyways, with litters and names of dogs in them listed, so this should be easily verified by checking with the register the dogs are registered with?

http://stoprutlandma...emory-of-ellie/

What a BITCH! She supposedly consistently year after year comes in heat time after time within 5 - 12 weeks after her puppies go home, falls pregnant every time and off she goes again! What a load of crap - Just goes to show you can say anything you want on the net - rofl1.gif She must have been in good nick to be able to do it !

That bitch should be in the Guiness book of records! We wont mention the way the register thing that shows it didn't happen wink.gif

Well, my bad if the information given wasn't correct, but it wasn't really my point to prove that it was possible to breed a bitch twice a year.

My point was that I believe that any limitations are supposed to apply to people who attempt to breed without break, despite the mental and physical health of the bitch.

I do not accept any of that rubbish to be factual any more than Wikipedia being used as a reliable and factual reference source :(

It would be an unusual bitch that would conceive if she wasn't in good health.

Have a read of the Breeders forum on here and see how hard it is for bitches to conceive and these are well looked after bitches who have not been bred season after season.

So that is really beside the point, is it not?

I mean that it doesn't really matter to my point if a bitch can have two litters a year or not, and I chose that number at random. I could have said 5 litters, or 8. In my original post I stated that I thought limitations were aimed at targeting people trying to breed two litters are year and disregarding their dog's wellbeing in favor of money.

If this is possible or not does not really matter to my point at all, so I do not understand why people are getting hung up on this point?

Because it does matter. Wrong information never helps anyone and if it is so wrong then it undermines anything else you say because what you have said is clearly not possible so everything else you say may be wrong as well.

I said people "may try to", how is that wrong information? Are you even reading my posts?

ETE How does it help any argument you are trying to make if you obviously either don't read other posts properly or don't comprehend them?

There is no doubt that regs are put in place to try to prevent the bad guys doing the wrong thing - problem is you first need to define the wrong thing according to science rather than emotion

If you have a responsible breeder who knows their bitches and a good vet there isnt any need to put those kind of restrictions in there but just in case some one might want to breed a bitch which is not in good nick[ almost impossible anyway] we all have to do as we are told and put our bitches at risk.

However, having said that the laws in NSW are harder than the code of ethics with Dogs NSW - Laws say no more than 2 litters in two years , Dogs NSW says no more than 2 in 18 months- neither is necessarily based on good science or what really is what is best for the bitch.

So whether a breeder in NSW is under a code of conduct or not they still cant have any more than 2 in two years. No need to write it in because makes no difference they have to comply with the law of their own state.

Considering the MDBA has breeders all over the country and in 8 different countries if they were to say one thing which turned out to be less restrictive than local laws it creates a problem so its all simply a case of comply with the laws.

Some pencil pushers who don't bred dogs have been told how dogs should be bred by people who dont breed dogs and know nothing of the science and we are stuck with it so - follow the law means no one has much to say about any groups code of ethics do they as long as they are agreeing to follow the law.?

But what's the harm in allowing a broody bitch to have a fourth, or fifth . . . or if she's healthy and able, seventh brood?

Good grief sandgrubber - this is a heinous sin - considering the link posted here was about a breeder accused of having back to back litters - the last of which was in 2005 and still getting flogged for it even though she denies it happened

it would appear the punishment for being accused of such a thing is worse than most criminals would have to live through. I'm not even sure these laws were even in existence back then.

Not only is the information on that site disgusting, but the technology being used on that website is also disturbing.

Using your link, I read through to the end of the article and was surprised to see that my name and my private email address had been already placed in the box where they were calling for comment!

No, I did not put them there.

The site has the ability to track anyone who reads it and I think we should be asking very serious questions as to why this type of tracking technology is being used on an animal welfare site.

Souff

Mine didn't- I think that depends on your computer having autofill switched on rather than it tracking you. Although I will qualify that by saying I don't know much about computers!

That sounds like a logical explanation but no, I don't use autofill.

I always type in what I need so this is why I was so surprised to see this on a site I have never visited before.

Will get the tech to tell me why this happened.
