Qld Police Dog 'Bosun' was attack during a raid at Coomera.

My link

Can't get your link to work, but I've posted this on my FB (Bosun is a very special GSD) ...

Bosun, the police dog that gained notoriety when he tracked down the alleged killers of Gold Coast policeman... Damien Leeding, is being treated after being injured on duty last night.

PD Bosun was hurt when police raided a house investigating a road rage incident. Nine News understands Bosun was attacked by other dogs that were on the premises.

Police say they are hoping Bosun makes a speedy return to duty.

Regardless of the breed??????

not all that many dogs would take on or do damage to a GSD, especially when backed up by the police... who have training, batons and guns!!!

The dog fraternity have to acknowledge that some breeds have more potential for harm than others - to own, breed and sell these breeds has an added responsibility....

I just saw an interview on Today with the dog and handler. The police handler said it was a Pittbull that came out of the house and attacked his dog.

I don't really think that stating the breed was necessary. I am sure any dog that has a strange dog and police burst onto their property would react the same.

I find it sad when police dogs get injured. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back out on the beat to help track down the bad guys.

How horrible, I hope the poor dog heals well and is back on duty soon enough. What a special dog.

You're kidding right? How about... other GSD, Rottweilers, any large breed and have you seen how many small fluffers run up and try and attack big dogs??

Yep, Pits can do lots of damage when they attack. As can any dog breed higher than knee height.

It has definitely been reported that one of the dogs was a "banned Pit Bull" and the other an Amstaff cross. A police spokesman did acknowledge that the dogs were protecting their property. I guess we won't hear anything further about what happens to the dogs.

Little fluffies are the only ones who are silly enough to try and take on my GSDs  Unfortunately another bad rap for Pits, if the house was being raided..... again an example of how this breed draws some bloody idiot ppl that ruin the breed for the rest who are responsible.

I hope this special boy makes a quick physical and emotional recovery.

Exactly.

Criminal? Selling drugs? What breed should I get? Uuummm how about that badass breed that we keep seeing in the news that are so badass that the Government has BANNED them! *goes and finds litter of poorly bred, poorly raised 'pit bulls'*

The bans have created a lot of the demand.

Heal well big boy, I hope there's no lasting physical or emotional problems.

I actually agree that the breed is irrelevant and we don't know how accurate his 'guess' at what breed the attacking dog was and was just pointing out that the officer had stated, on national TV, that the attacking dog was a "pittbull".

Yep, and you're also spot on about the ban creating more demand.

Poor boy, :( I hope he recovers quickly.

Poor dog, but if a large dog behaving aggressively came charging in my house there is a good chance my dogs wouldn't appreciate it, especially if the dog was after me.

It is a risk the police are willing to take and put their dogs in the firing line.

Like hunting dogs there's a chance they'll get seriously hurt and it's up to the handler to step in.

Speculation on breeds, and how the policeman can differentiate between the 2 breeds (does one have papers and the other not?)... regardless 2 bull breeds obviously owned by a miscreant, giving the press another angle to further the story. Hopefully the GSD will recover and be back working soon!!

I hate hearing that any creature has been mauled by a dog or dogs.

At the end of the day, the dogs that attacked may be well bred, but you can bet your bottom dollar that ANY territorial but usually happy dog who is suddenly confronted with some stranger and his dog bursting into his home, is likely to react poorly, regardless!

I find it ridiculously emotive to look at it from the point that poor Bosun, the beautiful GSD who has tracked and found a vicious policeman killer was basically set upon unfairly. If anything, where the hell was his handler and why didn't HE react faster? My point in saying that is that it's very easy to point the finger, hey?!

Don't get me wrong, I really feel sorry that the dog has been harmed, but I also hope that the dogs that did it are assessed FAIRLY - and not emotively.

AND, does anyone actually KNOW, or is it just speculation that these dogs were poorly bred?

Just watching the video now... apparently they were "greeted by two vicious dogs"... a Pit Bull and an "ArmStaff cross" gotta love the media.

He only has visible injuries to his leg and will be back at work in two weeks.

F11 I'd like to know how they came to the conclusion with the breeds as well?!

I dunno, he didn't seem to open for discussion when the reporter shoved a mic in his face asking if his dogs were dangerous
