Type In Breed Lectures

Breed lectures are generally directed at trainee judges and the lectures must only make reference to the requirements of the ANKC breed standard. Personal likes and dislikes should not come into it. Where there is a difference in colours, size, or other points between the USA and UK standard then the USA standard must not be used. Australia has the UK standards. The UK has country of origin standards. We do not share USA standards except for those breeds which are American in origin - Aussie Shepherds being one.

In Australia if you are breeding, judging, exhibiting you should be aware that the measuring stick for type is the ANKC standard which can be found on their website.

Yes because the simple reality is either style can be our breed standard

I don't see anything wrong with using varying dogs from around the world providing it is done in a constructive manner .

Many trainees often ask questions & sometimes it is easier to have pictures to show & explain why after all they are there to learn .

The breed standard fits many dogs ,many people see the breed standard as something different .

Breed lectures are very tricky

Hi RV, there's a terminology issue here that is often misunderstood.

There is only one type per breed. The breed type is what tells you when you look at the dog - "that is definitely a Saluki" - rather than a Sloughi, or an Azawakh, or a Chart Polski, or a heavily patterned Afghan etc.

There are different styles within a breed. The styles tell you (usually) what the heritage of the dog is likely to be, and while we all have our preferences about style, it can't override the breed type.

I give a breed lecture and make sure there are different styles of dogs present so the judges get to see some variety. I don't discuss what style is better, only to look to find the strengths in the dogs there in spite of the differences in style.

Every states judges education system is different and there are differences in how the groups are managed even within a state. So what can/can not be discussed depends on where you are and who is running the groups training.
