Puppy Formulation?

Some of you folk are so condescending and forget that the regular Joe doesn't know to buy their puppy from a registered breeder, and when they come here asking genuine questions 'ask your breeder' isn't very helpful. You could help educate one more person on the benefits of registered breeders with your wealth of knowledge whilst helping them with their enquiries.

WHY?

The OP's BF was told by the person he bought the pup off (I assume this was the breeder not someone else) to feed it "puppy formulation". He didn't get the full story so what's wrong with phoning this person and asking for clarification?

The breeder is the person who is responsible for these pups being alive - I don't care if they are ANKC registered or not, ethical or not or the pup is pure bred or not - it still has a breeder!

No point educating someone who already has a puppy from a dodgy source about the benefits of an ETHICAL breeder, if we do that we get bashed for being snobby. Can't win.

People DID help. People gave genuine responses to the questions posed. The OP was happy with advice provided.

The ONLY person who knows what the pup was fed before it came to its current home is the person who bred it. Why not ask them?

Where's the "condescension" ???

Presuming they have contacts for this breeder, who's to know it was an ad on the side of the road etc.

She's doing the best she can to work it out, don't presume all the facts are on hand, perhaps she is utilizing the internet to make sense of the phrase puppy formulation because she has no means of contact with this breeder.

Seems to me Donatella that you are presuming more facts about this than anyone else. ;)

You are certainly well ahead of the rest of us in presuming unflattering motives for posters in this thread.

It could be an idea to remove the chip from your shoulder and stop making such presumptions. The OP certainly didn't. :)

Nope just saying give the girl some good advice (as you are all knowledgeable dog owners - and advice has been given since the original few call the breeders posts). :)

Donatella, even if it was an advert on the side of the road the OP's partner will still know where he was when he saw it (I assume :-)) and be able to ask the breeder. This is standard advice and always the best. You do realise that the diet of a 10 week old puppy shouldn't be changed in a hurry unless it's something rediculous like weetbix and KFC so of course all us experienced caring people are going to suggest first that someone ask the person who knows what they meant.

Yep I get that, but pet shop pups as well? Or those silly dog warehouse places? I can't imagine they'd be a wealth a knowledge as you guys here.

I don't say what I say to be rude, I say it because I genuinely have learnt a lot for everyone here A LOT. For instance heads together here can generally solve a problem, see she's already getting rid of the puppy milk. Puppy formulation is a confusing turn of phrase for any breeder to use.

However Donatella, have you considered how frustrating (downright infuriating at times) it is for folk here when a new poster who has bought a pup from a source other than a responsible breeder is contantly seeking advice that they should be getting from the dog's breeder? Breeder takes no responsibility and others get to assume it.

I appreciate that not everyone knows better and for that reason I try to be kind to those buyers who find their way here. However, when a person who's been here a while goes out and does it, I feel somewhat less than kind. I think its using forum members for their knowledge while sticking the middle finger up to what this place stands for.

If I had my way, such posters wouldn't get be here any longer. Fortunately for them, Troy is more tolerant.

Oh and another pet peeve. Please don't buy a crossbred pup and then suddenly morph it into a purebred because it suits you to call it by a breed name. When you start giving advice by saying "well I have a Boggadog and it does x" when you've got nothing of the kind, I tend to get a bit

Rant over, back on medication now. ;)

I hope that the OP isn't put off asking another question about her new puppy, after the furor that her feeding question caused.

Regardless of where her puppy came from, it's her new dog. She obviously cares about it and wants to give it the best possible start in life and came here looking for advice from experienced dog owners. I don't think some of you realise how hostile and judgemental some of these comments come across as to new forum members.

Perhaps the breeders here suggest that new owners contact the " breeder" of their puppy for advice, because as "breeder" ourselves we expect to be and like to be the first port of call, not have our puppy buyers ask for advice on an internet forum.

if the "breeder" was that interested in the pups re homing a puppy pack would have gone with the purchase along with feeding and health instructions.... this is not the case... and until we hear other wise I think the collective information gathered from this forum is the OP best chance at 1) becoming educated and 2) providing a better quality life for her new member....

and no one was to know if that had or hadn't happened intially. And even if they had been given info some people ignore it and still ask on the internet what is best.

People asking about puppies here will nearly always be referred back to the breeder first up. There was nothing wrong with any of the responses to the OP and she was happy with all the advice and help given. It only turned pear shaped when some people had no helpful advice to give to the OP instead preferring to complain about condescending behaviour and hostile judgemental comments, which only they could see.

Im not saying it was anything wrong with it... i'm saying the detailed advise was just as helpful as the suggestion go ask your breeder...
