Cosmolo
I cannot believe how quickly things can change. One minute the best Jack Russell in the world was running and playing- 5 minutes later he is throwing up, foaming at the mouth, staggering around like he's drunk and another minute later he loses control of his bowels, collapses on the vet table with white gums. Anaphalactic shock to a bite of some kind.. Vet will call in a few hours to let us know how he is going- he is on fluids and had some injections. Apparently these reactions get worse every time they have them- do they have epi pens for dogs? Edited February 23, 2012 by Cosmolo
Sayly
Fingers crossed for the little dude, how incredibly scary for you.
megan_
Oh no! Lucy (and Fergs) send their love and kisses. I don't know about the epipen - maybe ask the vet? It sounds like a good idea, you just might have to adjust the dose. Also ask about cortisone, and whether you'd be able to get injections for that (because the tablets take too long to be effective in an emergency)
Cosmolo
Will check with the vet- We were lucky we were so close to a vet. Its not our regular one but i think he would have been gone if we had tried to get him there as it would have been another 25 minutes or so. RubyStar
Sending speedy recovery vibes to the little man! I got a prescription from my vet for a human junior epi-pen for my Ruby as there aren't dog ones. Every sting/bite reaction gets worse so good to have on hand. Cosmolo
Yes the vet says every reaction is worse which is very scary- it was an absolute maximum of 10 minutes from actual bite to collapse today, maybe even less.
