TrinaJ
What vet in Melbourne do you use and what do you pay? If you don't mind me asking. Have 4 quotes ranging from $97- $125 incl short consult. Also what dat after mating/AI do you take your bitch in. She had surgical AI 3 weeks ago today. I was thinking Tuesday next week which would make it at day 25. Is that too soon or should I wait for day 28? Thx Trina

espinay2
I use Monash. Can't remember what I paid though, sorry. But their equipment is very good and the view you get is very clear (they can tell you more than just is she pregnant or not). Unlike the one my vet up here has where you can hardly see anything and the operators are not as experienced. The good equiment and knowledge of the vets using it is worth the money for me (though I don't remember it being that much more expensive that what I was paying elsewhere). And the consult ended up not being short last time as Stewart was fantastic about talking through a heap of questions with me. JMHO. marinapoint
Depends what u want to see. Vet in Hampton I paid 200 which included heart beats and measurements. Vet in Frankston was like 45 but very basic with just confirmation of pregnancy took about 2minutes. That was beach street clinic :)
TrinaJ
Thx everyone. Monash were$125. I think I will just go to my local vet who was $65 to confirm pregnancy and do the X-ray for numbers just before she's about to drop at Monash. This is her 2nd litter but I couldnt remember at what dayI had Monash do the U/S last time Reason I was getting prices was because when I vaccinated and chipped the last litter I had prices from $750 - $1007 and thx to the help from the wise dolers here I was directed to Chirnside Park and had all 10 pups c3 and chipped for $
leopuppy04
I think I did kinta on around day 30 ish. From memory when I went to CPVC last time for the ultrasound is was under $100 :)
**Super_Dogs**
I prefer the pay extra where they have good equipment. Near me you can get an ultrasound for $50 which just confirms pregnant or go to another vet that costs $150 and you can see the heartbeats and how many pups. Last time he could see nine, but says + 2 incase any are hiding. We had 9. IMO definetly worth the extra money!! We just had an ultrasound yesterday. She is pregnant with 8 (or more) puppies

Pockets
I paid $88 at Wyndham Vet Clinic and use Dr John Watts (repo specialist)
Allerzeit
Wow good prices!! I paid almost $200 down here for a very much "quick and dirty" ultrasound, which could only confirm pregnancy and "oh, I think there's 3, not sure if there are more than that" (So I did the old double and add 1 - it worked perfectly - 7 we had!) Ultrasound with a specialist who could actually count puppies and give more than a yes/no answer was closer to $300 from memory. GOOD LUCK TRINA! All fingers crossed for you that she has lots of buns in that oven!
laneka
Oh goodluck Trina, hope Jett has a lovely 8 babies for you. 4 of each. I use Craigieburn as my vet and he is very reasonable. Sorry I cannot give you a price as every thing is grouped and I pay at the end.

espinay2
Just so you know - last time I ended up doing ultrasounds at two different clinics. The first one I was not happy with as because of the (lack of) quality of the machine and experience of the operator it was rather 'inconclusive' (was after a frozen semen AI so could have been a small litter - one thought they saw puppies but weren't sure, the other who looked said no puppies). So I went to Monash to get another one done where I would know for sure. As a result it ended up costing me more than if I had just gone somewhere with a better setup in the first place. Just looked up my records. First ultrasound was $95 with a 'free return' for a second look (which I didn't take up as it would have been useless to me) and second was as you quoted. In my case going cheaper did not end up being cheaper in the long run. Fingers crossed for lots of babies for you :) Edited February 17, 2012 by espinay2
dancinbcs
Haven't had one done for a while but I think they are about $50-$60 with no consult fee if you just need the ultrasound. Our vets do lots of ultrasounds as their main clientele are breeders. They are pretty accurate with numbers but sometimes there are one or two hiding in a bigger litter. I prefer 5 weeks when you can clearly see them moving around and compare the sizes.
LizT
I have my girls scanned at 28 days. Last one was $75.00 and I got a free scan a week later with senior vet to confirm it was in fact a singleton puppy. They also gave me another free quick look see on the day she had her Prog test which incidently was also the day the pup was born. I do have alot of dealings with these vets and a relationship that spans 20 plus years.
