Taking Care Of Clipper Blades

Apart from making sure you have a clean dry dog when you start clipping what are some other good tips on how to get the best life out of your blades?

I will admit to sometimes doing my dogs face or feet when they havent had a bath - how damaging is this to the blades?

Shells, this will blunt your blades but just make sure you wash them afterwards. I use blade wash although have used a mix of oil and something else I can't remember (metho, turps?), in the past. I then oil them with Singer sewing machine oil. I get the cruddy stuff out with an old tooth brush. I have had the same blades for ten + years.

I know its lazy of me if its any excuse I have 3 small children and work part-time but still like to keep the dogs clean and tidy (feet are most important due to all the grass seeds where we walk)

I use the Singer oil after using every blade and I have 3 #10's, 1 #15 and a toe blade so have a decent rotation. I also get them sharpend by Colin at Clipper Blade Sharpening.

I was thinking that one of the branded blade washes might be better??? WDYT
