How Many Times A Day Is It Normal For A Dog To Scratch

I was wondering how normal it is for a dog to have a scratch etc a day, my other dog is an allergy dog so as soon as my pup scratches i panic. He will have a scratch once a day or so and maybe dp the nibbling on his back legs also once a day. Nothing too drastic but i was wondering if thats normal? Also when he sheds more he scratches more?

Too many!!! ;) Zac is scratching heaps at the moment and I have gone over him with a fine toothed comb...absolutely no fleas! I think sometimes they are just scratching out dead coat.

ETA if the skin is not red or sore I wouldn't be concerned...a hair dryer on full blast no heat can show legions on the skin.

Hi Mason Gibbs.

Dogs will scratch for many reasons.

One of the little known causes is the irritation of lose short hairs.

They will also preen themselves with their teeth to remove lose hair.

My dogs can be totally flealess and still scratch frantically.

I would think once a day is nothing to worry about unless accompanied by rash/ infection.

My previous dog (who never had skin issues) would scratch and chew herself a few times throughout the day.

My atopic dog mainly scratches at night, but is getting better

What's normal for one dog isn't another dogs normal.

If your itching dog doesn't have any allergy signs then relax. How many times do you itch per day?

If you've flea treated, the dog has a healthy coat and a good diet and nothing seems to be a miss then I'd say relax :)
