Has anyone had experience with Happy Hands? They claim (for UK dogs):

http://www.balrion.com/Happy_Hands

Ship Fresh Chilled Semen Worldwide

h2.jpgMini Tube America CaniPro long life extender keeps semen viable for at least 7 days.

  • We can do the paperwork
  • Arrange for collection
  • Arrange shipping and delivery
  • All fees including stud fee may be paid by credit card
  • Use our service or just our kits

From start to finish we jump through all the hoops so you don’t have to

I thought the UK was really bad about AI . . . but do they permit export to other countries? Would AQIS raise so many roadblocks that more than 7 days is needed? Do extenders really work to 7 days?

I have imported semen from the UK about four years ago, the repro vet over there is based in Cambridge and she uses Cryogenes based in Victoria, and what happens is that she usually tries to send at least three shipments in the same cylinder so as to defray the transport costs, split three ways, I had no problems with this company, in fact they were very polite and reliable.

Yes UK is tough when it comes to AI being used over there from imported semen, I have sent semen over the past ten years to a friend there, what needs to happen the UK resident has to first of all get permission from the kennel club, then the bitch that the semen is to be used on has to have at least one registered litter got by natural mating before the owner can use the semen, well that is how it has happened with my friend.

Never heard of the company you mentioned, rather deal with an Australian company such as Cryogenes for if anything happens they are easy to contact.

Sandgrubber, your Monica (if she is still with you) is thanks to "Happy Hands" (Saudjie Crook) as Monica's grandfather's semen came to me from Saudje. She was then still in the US, but since she has moved to the UK I have had nothing but successfull frozen semen from her. She uses Angelika from Cambridge to do the collections and ships through Cryogenes to Aus. Being originally from the US, Saudjie knows all the ins and outs of collection, freezing, shipping and insemination of frozen semen.

The Cani Pro extender cannot be used for Aus due to quarantine restrictions, however it can be used for the US and yes it does work.

That is correct and the official way of doing things, although many don't bother to let the KC know they have done AI.

http://www.frozenstuddog.net/ is another company you could look at, they are in the UK in the NW of england.

Happy Hands seems to be particularly attractive to Labrador folks because they are associated with Balrion at Weathertop, a respected Labrador kennel with some lovely dogs. Sometime in the last decade, they moved from the US to Scotland.
