Remend For Corneal Ulcers

I haven't used it nor know of it. But that doesn't mean anything. I just wish you (and your dog) good luck with it and hope that it proves successful.

I have heard of drops (can't remember the name) that were invented for use on humans but as it turned out, had a greater success rate for dogs than for humans and so the product (apparently) was marketed for dogs. Those drops related to the reduction/cure of cateracts. Whilst I do not mean for this to hi-jack your thread Cowanbree, I'd be very interested in anyone knowing the effectiveness of that treatment, as well as having an interest in following the responses received in relation to your query as well. If that's ok with you? If not, please let me know and I'll delete this para.

Having had a few cats and a dog with a corneal ulcer I am very interested in hearing if anyone has had any experience with this product as well.

I Googled it and found this website http://www.virbacvet.com/products/dermatology/WoundCare/REMENDCornealRepairDrops.aspx which gives a bit of information. The video makes it sound like it can be used for all wounds.

I work at an eye specialist clinic and have never heard of REMEND. What meds is she currently on?

As for drops that cure cataracts, I'm afraid that there is no product available that does this. We are always on the look out for new products that might help our patients, but currently the only cure for cataracts in people and animals is surgery.

Apparently it was just released overseas last year and isn't yet in NZ. Is meant to work wonders

Due to her age our options to treat Millies eye are limited as even a sedation would be very risky so she is just getting eye cream 3 times a day, (Tricin) and Mike has put local drops into the eye and scuffed up the surface. Going back in tommorrow for a check up. I know it hasn't totally heal but am hoping it is improving

Here's a link to something about drops for cataracts. Scroll down - it mentions dogs as well. It is not the article I read initially - can't remember which one that was as it was a good while ago. I'm not suggesting I trust everything on the net, but thought it was interesting that there are so many google links to these drops which (from what I recall) have been found to work better for pets than for people (unless it has since changed, and assuming there is truth in any of this).

Just to reiterate : I am NOT endorsing this product nor suggesting that it works. It is something that I have seen whilst surfing the net before and something that has remained of interest to me. That I haven't heard of anyone who has used it does leave me suspicious, but still curious.

Local drops can delay healing and also dry the eye out. There are other antibiotics and meds that could possibly be used too. If a referral to a specialist isn't an option and the ulcer still isn't healing, perhaps ask your vet to call and chat to an ophthal next time you're there. Our vets are always happy to speak to local vets about their cases. :)
