pie
Well done on your JDM win and GD title Jess! TO well done with Darcy I know just how that feels! You must be excited for Jovi's Debut! Well Trixie and I had a ripper of a weekend at her first big trial, our state agility trial. Saturday she ran brilliantly all day and got an AD pass in the morning, getting her into the final and also getting her AD title finally, yayyy, morning JDX was just beautiful but dropped one bar! First time that has ever happened to me. Afternoon AD missed a broad (my fault of course but didn't matter anyway) and JDX got a pass and qualified for the final with first in height, such a good girl. Sunday was the finals and I wasn't sure how she would cope, she far exceeded my expectations and was not bothered by crowds or my nerves, JDX was so awesome but her dopey handler forgot a freaking jump and cost us first place Oh well you get that, and AD final I stuffed her weave entry. Then she ran hard that afternoon in the teams event but I was so tired it was DQ city because I handled like an idiot  So the weekend was a pretty massive example of 'great dog shame about the handler' Just loving doing agility with my girl at the moment and very excited about Nationals now Edited April 23, 2012 by amypie
J...
Come on TSD, you can't come in and make statements like that and not give us an update on how your retrieving trialling went with young Em :p Well done TO on your runs with your Darcy and big congrats on doing so well at your State Trials Amypie - lovely runs! That was a tricky weave entry for Novice dogs .
pie
Yeah quite a few dogs DQ'd at that weaver entry Jess! Ah poor baby dogs
The Spotted Devil
TO - congratulations with Darcy! A pass is always lovely but to have extra pizazz in the ring is awesome amypie - she is such a cutie!!! I enjoyed watching your videos - great results too Definitely a tough weave entry for a green dog! Come on TSD, you can't come in and make statements like that and not give us an update on how your retrieving trialling went with young Em :p Heh, heh.....full update (with pics) in the retrieving thread but we had a fabulous weekend. Finished both days (for the first time) which I'm absolutely delighted with - in Novice there are 3 runs and if the dog fails to pick up the game you are out for the day although the judges normally let you run your dog at the lower stakes for experience. On the Saturday Em astounded me by coming back with a huge dead rabbit she found on her way to pick up the correct game As she had technically retrieved "fur or feather" the judge allowed us a re-run but she had rabbits on the brain for the rest of the day so we owed the judge a few points even though she picked up all the game  She was so much better on Sunday and finished 5th from 9 starters - did some fantastic work, was so much more confident, hunted like a thing possessed and even surprised the judge who couldn't believe it was the same dog he'd judged only a month ago. We were both exhausted last night but she is firing again today and I'm really disappointed agility training was cancelled tonight!!!
Sayreovi
Thanks everyone, I am very pleased and can't wait for our next trial where hopefully we can repeat the performance! It's taken awhile (he turns 8 this year!) but better late than never and hopefully we can have a few good years now :D Great videos AP, I love how she looks like she is zooming when she is catching up to you haha Congrats Jess on your wins! I didn't even see your post....haha that post must have taken me forever to type! Edited April 23, 2012 by tollersowned
RubyStar
Been a long time since I've had a brag! Today's brag is courtesy of Ruby and her finishing her first novice retrieving trial, successfully finding all 3 birdies and scoring us 2nd place! Yippeeeee!!!! :D
Mrs Rusty Bucket
congrats RubyStar. I don't think my dog fully understands what "retrieve" means. sometimes she does and sometimes she just abandons the whatever it is over there and goes off with the fairies. Cleo's Corgwyn
Congrats Rubystar; its nice to hear about some of the more unusual sports. Could you or Spotted (retrieving) Devil tell me more about what is involved in a retrieving trial? I don't think I've even seen one run.

CleoJ - so as not to derail the thread I have a few videos of The Springer Devil training plus an explanation of retrieving trials in this thread. Feel free to ask any questions - there is quite a bit to grasp (and I'm only at the beginning of the learning curve!) In Victoria our trials are held on private farming properties so it's often a 3-4 hour drive and camping for the weekend so it's hard to find out about them unless you have entered. Spectators are generally welcome - you just need to contact the trial secretary. Edited April 26, 2012 by The Spotted Devil
Esky the husky
A small brag for me. :) We had the SA Sled Dog clubs sprint race on yesterday. Basically a drag race for dogs :p Two dogs compete over 100m distance and the top time over 3 heats wins. Esky had the 3rd fastest time out of our class. 1 dog. And we managed to top our division and come out with first prize. Super consistent runs too 17.59, 17.57, 17.58. I also got the joy of running Whisked Away's Akira in Novice Class. She took out first prize in that class, and beat ever other dog in the heat by 9 seconds The crazy fluffy one
Tassie
Now there's dogs having a heap of fun - handlers too. :D
Tassie
And a little brag for my kids. After an extremely windy agility trial yesterday (had to use rubber bands to hold the bars on  ) in which Kirra at 10 was totally feral but on fire - one JDM pass, and a few near misses in other runs, the kids backed up today for our club Rally O tests - Rory's first outing in Advanced - he got a nice pass on 93/100. Kirra in Novice (she hadn't done any club tests although she has her RN) was feral again, but managed to win the ring - happy with my naughty little girl who doesn't 'do' obedience. Rory did quite a nice Novice round in obedience - though stays are still a work in progress. Any tips for proofing the sit on the recall walk up - after the SFE - he's standing instead of sitting - but of couirse, only in the ring situation LOL
ness
yes Tassie Rory and Kenz must really stop txting over the sit on the recall walk up - after the SFE - bloooooooody dogs who like to stand instead of sit - URGH. Well done on your Rally results with both dogs and your agility pass with Kirra yesterday. Nice work on the sled racing Esky - looks like a truckload of fun. My only minor brag - I took Kenz out to do a mock trial and she would have been on a pass in Open before stays if it had been a real trial. Some things to still work on but the majority of it is there . Not bad for limited training.
The Spotted Devil
Oh well done Esky - how much fun does that look Tassie - your dogs are on fire at the moment....congratulations Nice to see young Kenz out and about, Ness - you must be very pleased!!! We had our own mock trial today at the agility teams selection for the Nationals. I didn't partake in the teams tryouts but took the opportunity to run both dogs in the mock trial. Em hasn't trialled yet nor done a huge amount of sequencing so it was perfect timing. The jumping course was at an easy Excellent level and both dogs had a ball getting "clear" rounds. The agility run was definitely at Masters level - very long for Em and lots of surprises for her so she did really well although she did try to walk on TOP of the tunnel from the dog walk  Zig ran it beautifully apart from a few handler errors from me. ness
TSD - I take each day as it comes and enjoy and treasure whatever time we have in the ring these days . No more nerves just enjoy every moment. I have to say its great to watch back the round and see no signs of soreness but to think we might still be looking at surgery does make the whole prospect seem even more daunting and leaves me scratching my head. Ah well will see what her specialist makes of her on Friday - he might yet disagree with the chiro vet's current verdict. ETA. Look at little Em go she is doing really well TSD and the spotted one isn't running badly either - well done . Sayreovi
Good weekend with alot of highlights at 2 day Hastings flyball comp, Darcys team (he wasn't running) broke 20 seconds for the first time ever! Jovi's team came first in their division, making it 4 wins from her first 4 comps including a Nationals :D She is going amazing, I am so happy how she is coming along.....still a few things that need fine tuning but that will come with experience and practice :D Not only that but we had a go at starting and she cracked 5 seconds!! Granted it was only 4.9 and over 7 inches but I was thrilled, her previous best was 5.5! However then we went too her height (11inches) and she did a 5.1!! She keeps getting faster and faster :) Darcy who is usually known as Mr Reliable was hyper and full of energy but decided he loved our heigh dog enough to turn around and want to chase him, happened a couple of times but still managed to average 5.6s over 11inch all weekend with a 5.3 thrown in which is his fastest in along time! Very pleased with the both of them especially seeing as we haven't done any training since mid March (bad me!)
Tassie
TO - maybe no training is the answer  TSD - gotta be happy with both your kids - they're really enjoying themselves, aren't they ... and tunnel under the DW - that's a big surprise for a baby dog

Thankfully in Victoria it is usually handler's choice and most dogs benefit from moving away from post end where they have just done SFE, esp inexperienced dogs. I am aware that other states do almost everything from the post, including retrieves, whereas we start those further down the ring, just another local habit!! Work on your cues and the on/off switch between exercises, but sometimes boy brains have time delays!!! Victorians have to wait until June to try Advanced Rally, there are many getting ready :-)
Kavik
Our brag for the weekend - qually and first place in JDX which gives Kaos his Excellent Jumping TITLE! Very exciting!
