Nekhbet
I have the perfect thing for her ... it's absolutely teacup sized, can be walked on a leash or popped in a handbag, has that uber SQUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE factor and is small, fluffy and comes in all the same colours as a pomeranian ... TADAAAAAAAAA! Netherland Dwarf bunny. You can toilet train it, have it as an indoor pet AND it will NEVER bark! How good a deal is THAT :D

Nekhbet
actually there is really a species of hamster called the Siberian :p although it could be one hell of a funny goose chase for her conversely if carnivores are more they're style a little jill is positively TINY! and they're already toilet trained when you get them for a litter box :D

Aphra
I have a rescue Pom in foster at the minute and he weighs in at a mighty 2.2 kg. I'm constantly startled at how little he is, and although he's a lovely wee doggie, being used to big dogs I'm a bit freaked out by how tiny he is. I can't even imagine wanting something smaller! minimiss
http://www.teacuppoms.com/ Here is a good site informing people on the 'teacup' scam. Like others have said its just ill-bred and/or sickly runts of the litter. You don't understand how small Pomeranians are until you get one.. My Pomeranian is 12 weeks old on Tuesday and weighs a massive 1.07kgs. He will only grow to a maximum of 2.5kg as per the standard. He's so dainty and little, if he was any smaller I would be too scared to handle him in fear of breaking him!
minyvlz
Yeah, BYB poms are huge. A friend's pomeranian weighed only 500gms at 8 weeks, but grew to 4kg full grown. Little greedypants who wouldn't stop eating.
kirst_goldens
people think real poms are tea cup cause they are used to seeing the crosses that are huge as a groomer i have clipped numerous poms and never had they been any smaller then a maltese!! LOL they are all huge and have long legs! so what she may actually be after is a regular sized pom! go through the breeders websites on dol and im sure she will think they are tea cup

Little greedypants who wouldn't stop eating. This reminds me of a debate I had last week about a girl I know bragging to me about her rare white Pomeranian. It's 14 weeks old and already 4kgs (looks like a japanese spitz X) she believes it won't get any bigger.. She thinks she is going to show and use it as a stud... Needless to say she didn't like what I had to say. At least OP is doing a bit of research for her friend. I wish more people would allow themselves to be educated or be proactive in educating themselves.

It's 14 weeks old and already 4kgs (looks like a japanese spitz X) she believes it won't get any bigger.. Almost as epic as my idiot cousin .. her 'friend' who was manager at a PP store sold her a 'Pure Miniature Maltese'. I saw the pup in the window it had a pale apricot splodge on the side. I said, there is no such thing as a mini maltese, in all probability this dog is a toy poodle x maltese because of the coat and a bit of apricot colouration I saw. Then the torrent of abuse started ... no, there IS such thing as a Miniature don't you know ANYTHING it's their size and it's PURE because the woman told me so OMG why would she LIE TO ME she's my friend and gave me a HUGE discount! (this was roughly at screeching level and in my face) So she only paid about $600 for this undersized runt of a thing that is still afraid of it's own shadow AND she dumped on her grandmother/mother when it wasnt even 6 months old. Her other dog was locked up until it went mad then she gave it to a BYBer to stick it up me. I'm the one who apparently needs a lecture on dogs. Sometimes you just can't fix stupid. Lead the horse to water, if it doesnt want to drink then brush your hands of it and pass them the number of a VERY good and blunt veterinarian. I wish more people would allow themselves to be educated or be proactive in educating themselves. I saw this 'pomeranian', pure white with light brown eyes and nose. Looks exactly like a J.S. but the owners were claiming he was a pomeranian. Yeah, a pom that's bigger than my westie TBH though, on a trip to Taiwan I have seen MANY dogs that were about half the size (same breed) in Australia. They claim that the dogs there are bred for size, which appears to be true. I do think there are teacup dogs, esp in Asian countries and the US, but so far I've not known of any in Australia. Don't even get me started on how pet friendly Taiwan is... so much for being a conservative Asian country (as compared to Europe). Nekhbet: I don't know about toy poodles but aren't they and malteses about the same size?
❤LovesPoodles❤
Sorry I don't know much about poms but can you get white ones? As that's the colour they want! So just has to be "tea cup" and white. Who cares about lines, temperament and suitability?!?! Why should I bother with them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Alyosha
Yes they can be white, but I think it's far from common. Cream you may find availble, but white... Not many in Oz...

I've seen gumtree ads from registered breeders who do not health test. These people have white in their lines too. Guest donatella
The white ones are becoming more popular (or they at least look pretty white in the pics). There is a breeder in Melbourne that specialises in white poms.

dog geek
People have an instinctive, emotional response to tiny animals with big eyes - a protective response which is enhanced by the juvenile behaviours the Toy breeds display. I suspect that the attention generated when the little guys are out and about with their owners is gratifying for their egos- not that that is necessarily a bad thing, it is social interaction and it is positive, and it may be really the only interaction some dog owners get with others... Unfortunately, not realising this instinctual behaviour for what it is can lead to some people escalating it beyond the bounds of sensible self-discipline... Tiny dogs are adorable - I am prone to the instant, overly-enthusiastic response myself - but I have deep reservations regarding reducing canines to less than 2.5kg minimum. In actual fact, the Chihuahua standard asks for: Weight up to 2.7 kg (6lbs) with 1.8 - 2.7kg (4 to 6 lbs preferred)*. As opposed to the Pomeranian standard, which asks for: Dogs 1.8-2 kg (4-4.5 lbs) Bitches 2-2.5 kg (4.5-5.5 lbs) *This is because Chis were originally used as a meat animal.... So they are supposed to be much weightier than their size would suggest...
