redangel
I was watching a friend taking shots the other dasy & noticed she had both eyes open. I tried it and well it did my head in LOL. I can see advantages to having both eyes open but I dont seem, to master it in practice. Is there advantage to having both eyes open? Was just interested to see how others shoot. Rosaline
I had to think about this, and actually get the camera to check, but no, I close the other eye when taking a photo!
MavericksMission
I can shoot both ways, but feel more comfortable closing the other eye.
helen
I close one eye, and I think screw my face up - look out for the photo wrinkles LOL
~*Shell*~
Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm shooting flyball shots for example and want to concentrate on one angle, i keep them both open so i can see the dog coming. If i don't need to keep the other one open I don't. mish13
They say you should have both eyes open so you don't miss something that could be happening outside the view of your eye piece. I can't do it I always shut one eye. ;) Edited December 31, 2011 by mish13

rubiton
Only open second eye if I need to know how close something is that Im not taking a pic of (when you hear a horse close pays to check where it is). Maybe thats why I cant quite take pics using the LCD screen on P&S cameras - have to use the viewfinder
Dust Angel
I got this little hint last year so have been practicing a lot. Whenever i am shooting action i have both eyes open, that way i dont miss anything happening outside of frame. Portraits and landscapes one eye closed. :D
PossumCorner
With a bit of practice it becomes more normal-feeling. And does have some "big picture" benefits other than just safety in an action zone. I think most target competition and hunting rifle shooters can use both eyes - for accuracy and depth perception more than safety.
Alyosha
When I used to pistol shoot it was common to shoot with both eyes open when the target was less that 7 metres away... After that it was dominant eye shooting. I'm not sure if that translates 100% to photography....
