Dame Aussie
We have an abundance of mosquitoes the size of your head this year They have the dogs tortured. Does anyone know of anything we can either feed them or put on them to keep the mozzies away? I know ACV works in their water for fleas but does it work for mozzies too? The dogs appreciate any help
persephone
Mozzie coils in spots the dogs/mozzies like to hang out I use the mozzie coils which come in a little tin hanger /container .. they cover a reasonable area ..and certainly help . Last year when we had thick swarms...( there were coils burning 24/7 ..hanging from trees.. on the ground .. in teh porch ..everywhere. just remember smoke rises.. do don't hang them high....if you place them in shaded/green areas..they will dter mozzies from resting/feeding there. if you don't have cats ...and depending what flea stuff you use .. consider a light spray of permoxin in the afternoon . I did this with all our`dogs everyday last Summer ... just a fine mist over head/legs/belly .
Kirislin
get rid of any standing water you might have in your garden, even the shallow bit in the bottom of pot plants. That's a start. Edited December 26, 2011 by Kirislin
Dame Aussie
Thanks perse, I'll grab some today I don't think there's any standing water at the moment Kirislin, but I'll have a wander round the garden and make sure later Thanks guys! Tilly
I have mozzie coil burners hanging all round our verandah ... worked out they were breeding in the self watering pots. Put some tape over the hole and no more mozzies (filling with sand also works). Edited December 27, 2011 by Tilly
cowanbree
I am trialing Marmite added to the dog food. People swear by it so I thought it may work for the dogs. To early to tell yet

Red Fox
I use Rufus & Coco Bug Off spray in summer. Seems to work reasonably well.
Sydoo
We use Advantix, which claims to repel mosquitoes and sandflies.
