:(Poor pup, taken from his family too soon, not allowed inside with his pack, this is starting to not sound ideal. I hope you have registration papers for this little guy as I think one day you may need them.

My thoughts exactly Robbi. :(

No disinfecting in my yard. As I said it happened when we took him out the front for a walk on the path.

Im not one of those people who like to have dogs in the house. I'm a bit of a "germaphobe" (queue Seinfeld bass guitar). I think in my head: "that guy is walking around my house, after walking in his own piss, mud etc out side". Or he is sitting on my couch after he has just done a crap....and dogs in my bed....HELL NO! Im sorry if I sound harsh, but IMO dogs belong outside. That all being said, being a pup, he does get to come inside quite a bit but he is usually happy to go outside after 20 mins or so.

Robbi, yep I have all the registration papers, and some guides he gave me. I have had dogs before, but always small , like Maltese terriers etc. Never had any issues with them, and they are still around (At my parents place), but i know the Amstaff is different to those small maint dogs, hence joining the forum.

Thanks for all the comments!

Well in that case he needs to go to the vet coz those feet definately arent normal theyre a funny shape as well they shouldnt be flat and splayed like that. Theres something wrong if that happened after a five minute walk unless you walked him so far that you exhausted him (which wouldnt be that far at 7 weeks) and he started dragging his feet but then youd have noticed that

Sorry if I sound harsh but maybe you should of got a dog teddy bear instead.

IMO dogs should be included as part of the family, and not just outside.

Are you bringing him in because you want him to be inside or is it to stop his crying?

Also I have been meaning to ask when you got him was he lead trained already?

I know some puppies can be a bugger to lead train, they can resist and jump around. Do you think he may of grazed his paws this way, while you were walking him?

To be honest when I first saw that pic of his feet, my first thought was that he had been dragged, esp with the bleeding being mostly on the top of the front paws, and also when you mentioned he'd been walked on concrete when it happened. :(

7 week old single pups do NOT belong outside. He's a baby, he's separated way too early and he's alone, no wonder he cries. If you wanted a more self sufficient animal you should have bought an older dog already used to pack separation, bull breeds dont do well as backyard only animals. Get a crate, put the pup at least in the crate inside if the idea of an animal inside is so disgusting to you. You have a life to look after now you have to make some concessions to ensure the animal gets its requirements fulfilled. Amstaffs are not beginners dogs and require a lot of work and attention. They also bond very strongly to their owners.

I'd be questioning your relatives breeding practices considering he broke the ANKC code of ethics letting you take him under 8 weeks and OKing you to let a pup that young live outside 24/7 pretty much. He should know that bull breeds need all the socialisation they can get AND dog to dog interaction which is why they should stay with their littermates and mother.

Poor poor poor pup :(

Left outside alone at 7 weeks all because the owner is a germaphobe. No wonder he cries, he's lonely and possibly in pain judging by the looks of those feet. I am feeling sad for this poor boy :(

I won't repeat what every one else has said because i'm sure you understand now.

Please consider whether you can do the right thing by this pup and accomodate what HE needs or give the pup back. Poor little saussage.

See now, people like you who have nothing constructive to add but merely want to post as you enjoy sinking the boot in, are really not needed here.

Umm, what does anything have to do with my needs? It's not my pup.

Even though several similar opinions had already been expressed, you still felt the need to share yours, although useless and completely lacking in advice, and as I said, only serving to sink the boot in further. But then according to you that's OK as it's a public forum?

Absolutely. I don't think its acceptable for a 7 week old pup to be left solely outside and its no wonder the poor thing is crying, it not only is lonely but has sore feet. I expressed that (along with others) as its my given right as a member of this forum.

But please, keep up the gatekeeping, forums need micro managing lol

Whoever it was that asked about Lead training: We don't walk him with a lead. Its down the driveway (probably 5m) then up to the next house (Another 5-7M) and back again. He is happy to walk along side of us.

If I let him roam around inside now, it will be hard to train him to stay outside when he is a monster. Its a dog, not a human baby. What about all those wild dogs? They dont have a house to bring their pups up.

Have taken Mojo to the vet. No dramas. Just a simple graze. No infections. The feet splayed like that are just in the pic as he is on the tiles, struggling for grip I assume, because when I look at them now they are fine.

Your making out like I just leave Mojo outside and that's it. First couple of nights he slept in the laundry. Now he sleeps outside fine. He gets to come in the house at least twice a day to run around and/or sleep. He does not cry all night, only when he waked up about 6am, he will cry for some puppy milk. Will have that, and im out there playing with him till he is tired again and he goes back to sleep.

In defence of comparing your pup to wild dogs, if he was in the wild at his age he would still be with his litter mates and mother and therefore would be happy and content.

What gives you that idea?

A dog is only going to be a monster in a house if allowed to become one!

And yes - he is a dog but he is puppy - give him a break. He has left home rather young, lost mum and his litter mates.

oh and wild dogs as already mentioned HAVE EACH OTHER...

It is what you do now with mojo that determines if he will be a 'monster' when he grows up...if you are meaning training wise.

If you are meaning size wise.. he should not be a huge dog . ...

We have dogs .. they are allowed indoors ..on our terms , and they are definitely not our 'babies'.They have strict rules as to where they go/sit ..and that's that :)

Wild dogs do not have 'houses', no - they have caves /dens , and they live in a pack...sleep all huddled up together at night, hunt together, and play together . Usually the only wild dogs who live alone are cast-offs, or the ill......

Oh, and not walking pup on lead may seem cute and clever , but you are not doing mojo any favours , really .

if he learns from day ONE that walks outdoors are on lead only, then the lead/collar become his 'ticket' to enjoying a walk ..and he is a lot safer ;)

It's best to start as you mean to go on. If the OP wants an outside only dog, providing the pup is given food, shelter, warmth, shade, attention and enrichment then what is the problem? The dog would grow up as do 90% of pets in this country... Perhaps not what most here would do but it's reality.

Some tips, Gorilla;

7 weeks old is too young for leash walks and yes, a little young to be away from mum and litter mates but not excessively so. With good socialisation now the pup will be fine.

Take the pup out NOW and socialise it as much as possible. Expose it to new sights, sounds, people, known dogs, etc. Make it a positive experience for the pup. Avoid areas such as dogs parks or where unvaccinated dogs may roam (until at least after the second vaccination). Avoid situations/environments that you cannot control.

Crate train your pup. It will allow you to have him in the house when need be (contained) and give him a safe and comfy place to sleep. Plus having a crate trained dog makes travelling and vet visits much easier for you and less stressful for the dog. It helps with toilet training too.

As far as the crying, well it depends why he is crying. I would not give in to attention barking, wait until he is quiet then go to him. However at 7 weeks it's more likely he is crying from distress and/or confusion. Give him a nice big soft toy to cuddle up to, a warm wheat pack if it's cold too. Put a ticking clock under his bed top soothe him.

As far as enrichment. The sandpit is a great idea. Paddling pool when it's hot. Kongs, bones and treats inside plastic bottles. A tug toy tied to a tree branch with either rope of thick elastic cord keeps then busy. Squeaky toys, balls, chew toys, etc.

Be firm but fair with him, establish the rules now. NILIF is a good one to read up on, also the stickies at the top of the puppy and training forums. Also remember that YOU are his pack now. If you must have him outside make sure you are able to spend adequate time with him.

As has been said, with the mess that is BSL make sure you always keep his ANKC papers in a safe place in case there is ever any discrepancy over his breed and raise him well.

Nice constructive post SK, the op has made a decision and whether or not we believe it to be right at least some constructive help may decrease some issues.

Definately keep those papers safe, you may very well need them in the future - copy them, scan them in your computer, have lots of copies etc etc. I would even staple a copy to his council rego application.

Is your cousin a registered breeder (I may have missed it) or are they just the vet vaccination papers?
