Huntia
Hi. my dog has a wound on her shoulder that i need to keep moist for it to heal. I am having difficulty in getting any wound dressing to stick to her. What do other people use when trying to dress wounds and keep them moist? Fordogs
The shoulder is a very tricky area to put a bandage on but you could try RipRap bandage as it sticks to itself or even the spray on bandage used for humans. Other than that is it an area that she can get to? If it is put an Elizabethan collar on her, if she cannot reach why not use Cetrigen spray on it, it antibacterial and will help to dry the wound. WreckitWhippet
It depends how often you need to change it. You could use a dressing, with a vetrap/valuwrap over the top and then elastoplast. Shoulders with open wounds have to be strapped under the chest and over the wither. You need to be careful with the cohesive bandages as they do constrict. If you can't strap it yourself, buy the supplies and get your vet/nurse to strap it for you.
pepe001
Try the ones sold in horse shops. No idea on their brand but they come individually packaged and are pretty colours. They stick very well to themselves. But I have only ever used thme on horse legs.
Huntia
Thanks guys. I have decided to take her into the vets and get them to show/reccommend how to do it. Until than i have given up trying to keep it covered.( i spent an hour yesterday trying to improvise something with no luck ) She has a "buster" collar on to stop her from licking it and i have stopped putting paw paw cream on it (although that was keeping it beautifully moist) and i am putting dettol antiseptic cream on it, which seems to have stopped the other 2 dogs from wanting to lick it

Huntia
Thanks guys. I have decided to take her into the vets and get them to show/reccommend how to do it. So none has been ingested, and the dog with the wound can't get to it because of the elizabethan collar. Huntia
Have been to the vet. Good news in that she doesn't need to have the wound covered and she doesn't need to wear the elizabethan collar . Treating it by squirting a dilute iodine mixture that the vet gave me into the wound 2-3 times a day, and all should be well in 2 weeks
