Double Lab Love Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Apologies if not posting in the correct thread - however I have just found out that our next door neighbours have surrended their gorgeous 11 month ACD to Blacktown RSPCA. I am furious with them and devestated that due to all the usual reasons - which I won't get into - YET ANOTHER potential promising young dog (bored and understimultaed)has been surrended. I was hoping that perhaps someone could pass on the details or PM me with the organisation involved in rescue for ACD's. I am not sure if the RSPCA contacts rescue groups (not having been involved before and aplologise for my ignorance) but it breaks my heart to see this poor young dog abandoned thru no fault of his own and coming up to Xmas and beyond I am concerned that he may get lost in the influx in the new year. Happy to provide more info if needed and also more detialed reasons for the surender and appreciate any help / contacts that might help... Thanking you... They are good poeple and tried various things over the last few months but I think had a high energy working dog that didn't fit into the lifestyle that they had and didn't have the right reources / training to cope... A far too common mistake unfortunately... I am just a bit upset bc he is a gorgeous dog and would do so well with the right home and I guess would love him to have a second chance... But with the means now for breed research / advice etc Do I just ring AWDR and explain the situation to them ? That is what OH thought as well... Plus we havw rwo young Labs and a small yard- not an ideal situation Hopefully an alternativ emight present itself by tomorrow... I keep asking why the b...dy hell get a dog and then be surprised if it acts like one and you've got to interact with it...what is this mentality that prompts people to act like this over and over again... Ons Posted December 20, 2011 Share Posted December 20, 2011 I don't think that RSPCA works with Rescue Groups and foster carers in the city, they do have foster carers in the country So it seems that maybe it's too late for AWDRI to assist sadly another case of a working dog in the wrong home, I'm not the most active person in the world, read lazy couch potatoe but I own two working dogs and have fostered working dogs, most just need their 20 mins to 30 mins walk each day which is good for everyone but they also need mental stimulation which even lazy old me provides - sit on a chair and throw them a ball, teach them tricks, do a bit of obedience with them, talk to them all the time, take them for a long run on the weekend, take them car rides, easy peasy really but I know I'm preaching to the converted it just makes me cranky how many people get working dogs then surrender them. (but I count my blessings every day that some ***** surrendered my coolie boy, he is the most beautiful dog) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I know of the area and didnt think they had a branch there ? And in the rescue section on this forum there is a young Australian Cattle Dog in the pound there: ID number 07816 I really hope someone can help - what a shame ! Get the cute puppy, pup gets all the attention / effection for a while, till the novelty wears off, puppy starts to relax & get up to a bit of mischief cause nobody is interacting with him anymore. Pup goes through the gorky growing stages. Somehow not so cute anymore & to top it off has just become so much more naughty in an act of desperation for even a glimse of love. Don't know what we are going to do with this darn dog, he is just so annoying & doesn't do a thing he is told. Best get rid of him, stupid dog. It just breaks my heart & you hear it all the time. Through NO fault of the poor pup, he ends up on death row or even worse, untrained & no social skills & very little to zero hope of a second chance at life. Hope there is a happy ending to this story for this little fellow. We need more education about the responsibilities of dog ownership. They are a living feeling thing & you are to take care of them for their duration, however long that may be. Ownership is NOT a decision to be taken lightly. I have read all your responses and agree 100% There is so much I wanted to post about the situation but sadly we all know too well what happens in these cases. I have two young Labs who I walk / swim at 5.00 am and 7.00 pm everyday regardless of weather - whom OH and I have spent hours training as puppies and beyond /socialising / day care when possible etc and basically tried to give them the utmost quality of life whilst working 12 hour days- which I know everyone on these forums does too regardless of work / social committments etc. It is not a committment that we undertook lightly. Weekends are all about them and they are our utmost priority - often to the rididule of work colleagues and neighbours but you know what - who cares - they are our life. So to see this situation develop next door with people who had the time and the resources to spend on him and who didn't made my blood boil. I couldn't sit back and let this promising young dog get dumped bc he became " too much hard work" and the infuriating thing is that it IS THEIR FAULT Yes he was surrendered to Blacktown pound - they told the OH it was RSPCA but after a bit of research yesterday I found him on the pound website. It broke my heart. I was patting him through the fence Sunday morning and the next day he was there BUT the good news is that I contacted the Aust Working Dog rescue yesterday morning and by the afternoon they had been in contact with me via email to check his details etc... I have everything crossed that they can help... For those of you who have been involved in rescue etc (my first time so a bit clueless here) should I chase up today ?
