Phantom Pregnancy

Looks like Amber is going to have a phantom pregnancy after each season. I can't de-sex her due to her liver problem.

Has anyone had any success with herbal treatments?

She currently has big boobies, is sooky and is nesting. Someone asked me if she had just had pups on the weekend! Poor little thing.

Is there anything I can do for her?

Up the exercise and cut back her food, each time she comes into season.

Either that or put her on Ethylestrenol or testoprop and stop her cycling. Testoprop is probably an easier one to manage. You can have injections monthly but from experience with Greys, there are less mood swings if done every two weeks. The ethylestrenol is given either as a daily tablet or a match head size paste.

Check with your vet if her condition will allow her body to tolerate either of them

Probably doubtful I can give her anything chemical. Can't even give her wormers or vaccinations.

Just had a google and both those substances can cause liver issues in healthy animals.

I'm not sure about phantoms, but an old treatment to minimise estrus symptoms and problems was to give chlorophyll. Might be worth researching?

edit to add - maybe it only helps as an odour masker...

All my bitches have had phantoms after every season. It never did them any harm but was a pain when trying to show them. Nature intends for dogs to have phantoms. In a wild dog pack the alpha female breeds and the other females have phantoms so they can take over the care of the litter if anything happens to the dam. After a season the progesterone level rises no matter if the bitch is pregnant or not. Some just show more signs than others.

Maybe it is me that needs to take something then, lol! I tend to stress out if I think the dogs are poorly.

The actual season is more likely to cause issues for her with her cleaning herself. The blood can cause fits. Might have to use pants next time.

ETA: I feel bad too because I can't desex her. The specialist said it was too dangerous though.
