for starters : Do not treat pregnant, lactating or breeding animals

so only good for desexed pets or entire ones if you are 100% sure they will never contribute to a litter

I don't like anything that treats so many different things in one dose, way too much chemical for my liking. I only treat for fleas if there is a problem and would never worm my dog monthly.

Comfortis has not been tested in breeding males either so it isn't an option for anyone with breeding dogs. Even in a pet I would worry if it isn't proven safe for all dogs.

We have just started selling it in our Clinic and are yet to get feed back on it. The flea controll is the same as comfortis, so is fast acting and effective. The internal parasite controll apparently only targets one life stage of the worms (unlike Advocate which does all the life stages - as kindly pointed out by the Bayer Rep) Panoramis also does not cover Tapeworm, so ideally this should also be done every 3 months still.

I have been using comfortis and my supplier sent me this email regarding new product. I won't be using it as I rather worm at set intervals and luckily we aren't in a heartworm area so not a big issue for us atm

*** Panoramis For Dogs ***

BUY NOW

This is just a little note to let you all know about a new product that has recently been released in Australia.

We can see you have tried comfortis! It is certainly one of our most popular products because it works brilliantly for the control of fleas! If you loved comfortis as much as we do, you might also like this new product called “panoramis”.

‘Panoramis’ is a monthly chewable tablet for dogs that –

Treats, prevents and controls fleas

Controls flea allergy dermatitis

Prevents heartworm disease

Treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm & whipworm infections.

Panoramis is promoted to be an ideal choice for:

· Dog owners who dislike mess and inconvenience

· Households with children or other pets

· Dogs that swim or are washed frequently

· Dogs with dermatological (skin) conditions requiring topical therapy

Before starting panoramis is it import to discuss the suitability of this product with your veterinarian. Any dog that is older than 5 months and has never taken any heartworm preventatives, a dog that has missed a monthly treatment or been more than 2 weeks late on a monthly heartworm treatment, are not likely to be ideal candidates for the product without a heartworm test first, so you should consult with your vet before starting treatment.

Also remember that Comfortis and Panoramis don’t treat ticks, so if you live in a tick area, you will still need a product for ticks. Panoramis can be safely used with preventic or kiltix collars (but remember that nothing substitutes for checking your pets thoroughly each day during the tick season!!).

We hope you like Panoramis as much as we do. The feedback on the product so far has been very good!

The team at Budget Pet Products

Are you only selling it to desexed pets or do you point out it is not safe for intact animals?

I don't think it's that it's not safe, but more that they haven't tested the effects on fertility.

The intestinal worming ingredient in Panoramis is milbemycin, also found in Milbemax and Interceptor / Sentinel. Although the product is new here, Comfortis (spinosad) has been out in Australia for a while with a good profile and we've found it to be very effective for flea control - particularly in those dogs that have skin conditions that might need frequent washing.

There's no perfect product - Sentinel doesn't kill fleas, Advocate doesn't treat tapeworm (nor does Panoramis), Revolution is pretty useless for intestinal worms - but all the reps will have something to say about each others products.

I use comfortis in all my dogs bar pregnant or lactating bitches.

One of my girls had it monthly until she came in to season and went on to have a very healthy litter of 4 pups.

I currently have a bitch 5 weeks in whelp (confirmed via ultrasound last week) who was also on comfortis until she came into season. She is expecting at least 5 pups.

I don't know about my stud dogs fertility as 1 has had the superlorin (sp?) implant and neither of my other boys have been used at stud.

I will continue to use it as I have had a severe flea problem where one show dog ripped all his coat out.
