Fordogs
I also have an older 11 years old GSD and she will often eat dirt also. I have no idea why she does this but it has no bad effect on her so I let her go. At this time of her life she really takes no notice of me any way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stubborn old bugger that she is. :scold:
Dame Aussie
Mosley does this, although I don't think he is eating the dirt, he seems to go after bugs and things in the dirt, he will dig, eat, then roll all over it I wouldn't worry, it's not that unusual, unless he's eating a LOT! RubyBlue
My old lab did this towards the end of his life. He had always eaten grass (and fertilizer flavoured dirt when he could get away with it) but we figured the sudden 'any dirt will do' fetish may have been nutritional as he was on a protein restriction diet. We started giving him some multi-vitamins. Not sure if it really helped or not - at this stage of his life it was really a palliative care type thing. Maybe a trip to the vets is in order just to see if she is lacking in something. Edited November 25, 2011 by RubyBlue
