gone
hoping some experienced breeders / doggy people can point me in the direction of some good books to buy for a family thinking about adopting a dog. They have 2 children 6 and 8 years old and the 8 year old is dog mad and will be reading too so kid friendly reading care type books would be great. Alkhe
Hm, my immediate thought was Ian Dunbar's books, have a look here. But they're probably not the right kind of thing for an 8 year old.. They're good books to recommend to the family, though?

Roova
I've loved reading "The Focused Puppy" by Deborah Jones and Judy Keller. I bought mine though Clean Run but I'm sure you can buy it elsewhere: http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=2502&ParentCat=407&string=focused puppy The book is recommended to those starting with a puppy (it also gives lots of great suggestion on how to choose the right puppy for you) and is also for those who have adopted an older dog. It's written in a very straight forward, easy to read manner. Also the free articles on the website Dog Star Daily are pretty easy to read and broken up in to lots of different articles: http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/your-education-about-puppy-education. wherezaball
I am a big fan of Dr Sophia Yin's two dog behaviour books in this link below. They have the latest information in an easy to understand format for dog owners and trainers. With excellent pictures to accompany the lesson/topic. A must read for pet owners and dog trainers. I have a book shelf FULL of training and behaviour books (it is an obsession of mine) and these are by far some of the best you will read. The next would be The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey. http://drsophiayin.com/dogproducts
Gayle.
The Karen Hedberg book is supposed to be excellent, I've suggested it would be an ideal gift for me.
wuffles
I like The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller. It's quite easy to read and is set out nicely.

Poppy's mum
I like The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller. It's quite easy to read and is set out nicely. I have that out of the library at the moment (plus six others). The library seems to have lots of dog training books to choose from. It's a good way to decide what you want - sample then buy. There are thousands on Amazon and Booktopia, it's quite bewidlering. I also read the one by the Irish man "brought up by dogs" - too, too much. That might be useful - kids are so visually orientated these days and it's a good learning technique/imitation.

dancinbcs
Think Dog Every dog owner should read Think Dog by John Fisher. I wish I had read it before I got my first BC, not 10 years later. Edited November 24, 2011 by dancinbcs
