Pockets
I am not referring to x-raying to count pups at 8 weeks... I have read x rating pregnant bitches prior to this is risky, what are people's opinions on this? Is it risky to x ray other limbs of a bitch if she is pregnant? dancinbcs
Definitely risky. If the x-ray is vital for the dog's wellbeing then they would need to cover her abdomen with a lead apron like they do with humans. I don't even like the idea of x-rays to count puppies. My vet is a repro specialist and only ever ultrasounds pregnant bitches.
PomsNZ
YOu might as well get a xray of the entire dog, saves getting a xray in a few days LOL. If it was dangerous theyd cover her up, but if you were going to get it done, might as well find out count and size of pups too Edited November 10, 2011 by PomsNZ
Miss Danni
Has something happened to Holly, Pockets? Hope all is OK. She is what, 3 weeks in whelp? I'd be a little concerned at that stage too, feotuses are still early in their development and I would have thought far more susceptible to xrays than in 5 weeks time. But if it is a limb that needs xray, I'm sure that they could drape a lead apron over the rest of her to protect the pups. If it isn't essential, can it wait until she is 8 weeks in? Bilbo Baggins
Pockets I would be talking to the repo vet in Werribee.
LizT
At three weeks gestation is it at all possible (provided there is no urgency due to an injury) that an ultra sound be done in 7 days to confirm IF in fact the bitch is pregnant?
