DAVERI
my old dog has come to stay for the weekend while my partners parents go away. just wanted to get some advice on helping her loose her winter coat a bit faster. she's a dark choc with red markings. we plan to give her a bath tomorrow as she's been down the old's back paddock and roll in dead roo (right before getting in the car). and ive noticed she go a few fleas too. but she's shedding everywhere like mad since she came home today. i took to her with an old horse brush (long med soft) but she clogged it with about 4 to 5 strokes. i've got some old rubber curry combs and a feather light grey stone (can't remember the name) i used on the horses but is there anything we can start in her diet etc to help it she quicker. or maybe any othehr tips. thanks
Nekhbet
get yourself a deshedding brush like a furminator/Noahs Deshedding etc. One good session should remove all the loose hair then a good bath and a finishing brush
Jumabaar
http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/products_id/105 I use something like that on my Kelpies to get rid of undercoat. Using warm water will help loosen some of the coat when you wash her. I also just get a fine tooth comb and brush till the cows come home with a big coat dump! Additives- you can look at Livamol. It won't help get rid of her coat any faster but it will make it grow back in nicely.
Nekhbet
jumabaar do you find Livamol actually works on the dog? I tried it on my lot as a tester, even the ferrets, found it did absolutely nothing I did discover seaweed made my dogue turn a funny brown colour O_0

I actually use it as an extra source of protein for the Kelpies to help with weight maintenance- they have dark shiny healthy coats regardless of what I feed them so who knows if it helps with that. I wanted to use seaweed to darken one of my dogs eyes (so I didn't have every second show person tell me about them sigh) but it made her burpy LMAO so gave it away! As with everything depends on the dog and the balance you already have in what your feeding I guess as to how much benefit it gives.
