V-TeC.yo
Hi everyone i'm buying purebred amstaff from a breeder soon he will be coming home on december the 4th he will be 8 weeks of age. he will be going to the vet for his second vaccination at 12 weeks old. I saw some people say on the internet you shouldn't let your pup walk into the vet because it is dangerous soo.. would it be okay if i bring my puppy in a cardboard box on the day i bring him into the vet ??? Please help, Thank you Vtecz.
tiff-689
Just carry him in your arms? At 12 weeks he won't be too big or heavy to lift. The concern isn't so much inside the vet (as they mop and vacuum clinics twice a day) as to outside the vet and in the car park.
V-TeC.yo
Oh okay thanks for your reply Tiff =) would it be weird bringing him in a cardboard box but ? it would be much easier to hold haha.
trinabean
I agree with Tiff-689. Just carry him in. And don't allow any dogs in the waiting area to 'meet' your unvaccinated pup either.
persephone
I do not think a 12 week old pup will be at all happy or comfortable in a cardboard box .....and may well hurt itself trying to jump out.

NOCTRL
Our staffy (not amstaff) just finished his last vaccination at 14 weeks. We have carried him in each time. I am only tiny (5 foot and 50 kilo) and I can manage to carry him just fine - he is 10kg. PS love the name V-Tec Yo ;) Edited November 9, 2011 by NOCTRL
emery
If really concerned and can not carry him ask vet to come out to car to vaccinate him, some vets will no harm in asking

Bundyburger
Just walk him in on the lead... It's no more dangerous than an adult dog walking in IMHO..
Sandra777
Unless you plan on sterilizing your shoes and clothes every time you come back in to the house I think it's an over reaction to do more than carrying the pup in at 12 weeks and not letting him meet any dogs in the waiting room. At 16 weeks he should have already been out and socialising for a month so a vet visit is nothing (and you might want to ask your vet about alternative vaccine protocols). Phone the vet before your appointment and ask them if they have had parvo cases in the clinic - if they have then as someone else said it's more important to carry him in the CAR PARK than in the clinic. Miss B
If your vet uses the Nobivac C5, his 12-week shot will be his final puppy vaccination anyway
