Walked on 7 different types of flooring, held by 7 different types of people, etc etc - to do up to the crucial development stage of 7 weeks. Of course now I can't find it anywhere! I have 6 week, and 5 day old ACD's at the moment, and from what I can remember from my research last yr, this is what it was... Well at least thats what I did, and Im very happy with the temp's of that litter of 6 Basenji's. They were lovely and bold, and their nearly adult temperaments are all wonderful.... Sorry I cant help in pointing the article to you... By the way, its funny how this has come up now, was talking to a breeder just this am, about this ;) ... Nice to hear you've had success with it, gives me a bit more confidence I'll be on the right track when I find it! It's always a little daunting looking at different methods of socialisation. Considering it's already a topic of your discussion ( ) you might be interested in a DVD I hired not long ago from our Dog Library, in regards to temperament testing. The DVD highlighted means such as the 'Volhard Aptitude Test' which is for working dogs, but the interesting points raised were how the breeders assessment was as equally, or debatably more, reliable than the test itself. Of course the *type* of breeder here is the important part. DVD was by Patricia McConnell called 'Testing Puppy Tests' or something similar. You might find it interesting! Trisven13 Posted November 2, 2011 Share Posted November 2, 2011 I have done the rule of 7 with every rescue litter we've raised and I think that, on the whole, it definitely makes a difference. We've had one litter of pups with poor temperaments but it was across the entire litter so I believe it was a genetic issue, not a socialisation one. There are other things that I've read about on here that include ticking toes from birth, hanging the pup upside down etc etc - wish I could remember but I did give it a whirl with one litter of rescue pups. Having a young child with friends coming over and handling the pups. My vet always said that mine where the best socialised pups that they saw and this was with some coming back on an ongoing basis.
