tiff-689
Just wondered if it's an external factor such as sun exposure or an internal body factor that causes skin to loose colour. Abbie's lips used to be black, but i have noticed over the past month that the edges have gotten pink...It's looks a little more extreme then what it actually is in this photo because of the flash.. becks
With the lack of hair too, I wonder if she is rubbing her face on something?
OSoSwift
Looks to me like a bit of an allergy or irritation. Does she eat of a plastic dog food bowl? Edited October 30, 2011 by OSoSwift

If it's an irritation of some sort what could I put on it?
Glacius
It does look like an irritation or reaction to something to me, the lips look pimply like, rough like she has been rubbing them on something maybe? I would suggest having it checked by your vet.

I have heard of a number of dogs that end up with lips much like your girls when they have eaten out of plastic bowls, that has then dissappeared when fed from a non-plastic bowl. I use stainless for mine. Edited October 31, 2011 by OSoSwift
becks
Good point about the bowl! Mine also have stainless steel bowls for food and water
tiff-689
Interesting. I'll switch her food bowl over to stainless steel. I use plastic buckets for water, but it should be fine to keep them considering she is only making contact with the water right?
OSoSwift
Not sure about the plastic bucket, I would possible try and get a stainless bucket and try that, or a concrete container maybe??
becks
I would get a stainless water bowl too. I used to use a yellow plastic bowl for water and it was amazing that soon enough the area where the water was had turned white - that can't be a good sign! Andisa
Does she have a favorite plastic ball or toy that she spends a lot of time with? Hamish made a mess of himself when they first got a Jolly Ball - all my dogs love it but he is obsessed with it. I had to remove it from him several times when his mouth was irritated - he must be used to it now because he doesn't have problems with it anymore. All bowls and buckets here are SS. (the prices in that link is heaps cheaper than the horse shops) Edited November 2, 2011 by Andisa
tiff-689
I ended up switching her over to a glossed ceramic pet bowl i had lying around. Still using a plastic water bucket but the difference to her lips in the one week without the plastic food bowl has been great! funny how it took this long for her lips to start showing irritation though. Anyway this is a pic i took tonight..looking much more normal
