Dog Attacks On Children:

I'm tired of hearing news reports about dogs attacking children in the news

The reporters almost never describe whether and how the child was supervised or educated.

Blood hell.

Kids need to be educated about dogs. Parents need to be held responsible for inadequate supervision/education of their kids.

It sickens me to hear about the dog being pts because, say, it's a timid dog, viewed a kid's hug as an attack, and had a nip at the kid's face.

The NEWS isn't handling this issue very well. We need some way to get media and legislative attention refocussed on parent's and dog owner's responsibilities.

In 99% of all cases, the fault is with the dog's owners, and the child's parents (or minders).

some sweet tempered dogs can turn nasty if they're subjected to onslaught from a poorly minded and badly educated child.

99% is a hell of a statistic dont you think?? my cousin alex was attacked by a mastiff x ridgeback when he was 5 years old, the dog knew him well, alex was always respectful of the dog, and the owner one of our family friends was a very lovely owner. alex was playing with him in the loungeroom on the floor as he would usually do and digger attacked him unprovoked , no warning, nothing. we all there and it looked like he was going to lick him and all of a sudden he had taken a piece out of alex's arm and even though with his owner and my aunty trying to pull him off tried to continue to attack him. I think genetics can have a lot to do with the matter aswell.

and I have been bitten by a very horrid little dacshund a few years ago, I was walking talia and this little dog came flying out from under the fence and bit me on the leg! i reported it and the council contacted the owner about the issue.

the person who owned the dog was at work at the time and had not idea her dog would do such a thing because she has kids a etc and he has always been fine with them.

its not always the owners fault, the parents or the minders, it is possible for some dogs to attack unprovoked, they are naturally hunters after all its only natural, the best people can do is try to watch the signs.

I agree that some dogs do attack unprovoked. Years ago when we had a wonderful standard schnauzer and my husband was taking him for a walk a neighbour down the road owned a Lakeland Terrier. What a nasty piece of work that little dog was. He attacked my hubby and the dog and he was forced to kick the little so and so, but he kept coming back for more. You ask yourself, why was he allowed to be in the street, but these owners were irresponsible letting their dog come into people's front yards to drop their load, when the owner was very conveniently reading his newspaper and of course didn't see what his pride and joy had done. On another occasion this little terror attacked a friend of his daughter and her small dog. The offending terror attacked her dog and she picked him up and tried to run away. I just happened to be outside and witnessed all this, and took to him with a broom. Of course, according to the very responsible owner, he had never done this before. Yeah right!!! This dog attacked, totally unprovoked in the case of my husband and this lovely young girl who came to visit her friend.
