bjazld
I was just wondering how much and how often fenugreek is given to help milk production. would it be something you could give from the first day of whelp? and if so do u mix it in with the bitches food? SwaY
I don't know how the bitches stomach it, that stuff reeks!
persephone
HERE is a link to a thread on fenugreek. personally, I'd only use it if a bitch is known to have lactation problems , or , after whelping a LARGE litter, she is not producing well. ( and producing well does not mean she staggers around looking like a dairy cow ;) ) I don't believe in encouraging a bitch to overproduce 'just in case'. It has its own problems

Shazzapug
Where and how do I buy this Fenuegreek...I have a Pug bitch with 2 1/2 week old puppies and her milk is not what I would like to get them thru to 4 weeks.
piper
I got it from the local health food shop but only get the tea. So I just made that and added some to her meals. I didn't use it constantly - I gave it for the first few days until her milk came in and then again for a week when they were 3 or 4 weeks old as 9 greedy pups were a bit much for her supply at that stage and I didn't want to increase the solids too rapidly. Leema
Sorry for thread highjack of sorts, but: After my bitch had copious amounts of milk on birthing her singleton puppy, we now have some puppies in need of a surrogate (same age) coming today. And, in the last two days, Clover's milk supply has diminished significantly - as luck would have it! If Clover does have difficulty feeding the new surrogate puppies, would adding Fenugreek to her meals help? Is there any other suggestions? Bilbo Baggins
You did not read the full article Since then I routinely give 1 heaped teaspoon of fenuregreek twice a day for at least 2 weeks. I mix it in the wet food. It could also be mixed with minced chicken or beef into balls if you are not giving moist food.
