just1more
Hi all With the warmer weather coming in quick...plus a way to stop my 'destructo dog' aka Bindi...I was wanting to make some frozen blocks of treats to help cool down and keep my 2 staffords occupied ;) What do I put in them but? I was told by my boys breeder to feeze a block with chicken stock and kibble but I don't like the idea of that much salt from the stock and wouldn't the kibble go all mushy? So, maybe very diluted stock and chunks of meat/offal/apple/carrot etc??? Any ideas would be great Thanks
Bjelkier
I use fish. Edited October 25, 2011 by Bjelkier
Guest lavendergirl
You can use the salt reduced stock. I freeze treat sticks/greenies etc in a block of weak stock - keeps them occupied for a while. The kibble does go soggy.
Kiara&Heidi
If you don't want to use stock you can just mix the blood from some raw meat with water and even better mix in a bit on mince as well. As for what else to put in it, you can use pretty much anything you can think of that your dog likes. I have used chunks of meat, offal, apple, blueberries, goji berries, raw egg, cheese (small amount), chicken, fish... you get the idea ;)
Tilly
I use a tin of sardines (in spring water), fish pieces, cubes of meat, chicken necks (left whole or chopped into chunks). I also try to freeze a nice juicy bone in the middle.

Danois
I use diluted chicken stock and usually add cooked chicken sausage and cooked prawns (just the cheapy imported ones).

Boronia
I am not sure if you can buy the berries that haven't had Sulphur Dioxide added, I'd be interested in knowing if I can buy them somewhere that they are truly organic http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/factsheets/Factsulphites.htm and more bad news here... http://www.health24.com/child/Allergy/833-3475,14452.asp and scroll down 2/3 of the page here... http://mychristianhealthcoach.com/articles.asp
Fynesse
My main issue with making ice blocks is that everything I add sinks to the bottom, then they just spend 10 minutes getting through to all the goodies, then wander away! Any ideas on how to get things into the middle??

Any ideas on how to get things into the middle?? Fill up the container with water halfway or less--freeze it. Then when it's frozen, line a layer on top of the frozen block, cover with water, and freeze again.

I'm pretty sure (but not 100% sure) that it needs to be listed in the ingredients as a preservative in Australia. I know a lot of dried fruit has sulphur dioxide added, but it is listed in the ingredients and I never buy it. Either way, I don't feed them often enough that it would be a problem, it would be less than once a month that she gets them. The blueberries I feed are fresh, so no preservatives there. I tried to grow a Goji berry plant once so we could have fresh berries, but Kiara ate the whole plant
