Safe Fly Control Over Summer

We have fly traps set up, and they are already working wonders but I want something to put on the dogs ears everyday and also something to put/spray on their bedding and where they hang out most of the day.

Something that won't harm them if they lick it as they do mouth each other quite a lot. I have no problems applying it everyday.

It isn't even summer and the flies are horrid already.

Having several huskies here, I also have to watch out for flies. I use Virbac Septicide cream and find it to be fantastic. I just apply it to their ear tips once in the morning in the warmer months and it works great.

i got something from the equestrian supplies that has a lot of rosemary oil in it and some other stuff. No idea if it works on flies or not.

If I want flies off me - I still use aeroguard.

I use Permoxin diluted in spray bottle - dermatologist recommended it for my boy who is allergic to insect bites so it must be pretty good

Sometimes I put it on their noses aswell and they use their tongue to try and lick it off. They've never had any problems or side effects from doing so.

I have also used it occassionally on small wounds (as an antiseptic cream as it has antiseptic in it aswell) and also to deter flies from sticking to the wound. The dogs might have a lick or 2 of it, again they've suffered no ill effects and again it is very effective at not only preventing flybite, but also at helping to heal small wounds.

I've just read the Safety directions on the back of the tube and it reads:

MAY IRRITATE THE EYES. AVOID CONTACT WITH THE EYES. WASH HANDS AFTER USE.

Are either of these greasy/sticky? If they are really greasy I won't be able to use it.

We've tried a few different brands of insect repellent and whilst they all worked to begin with after a while the flies didn't seem to care. The little suckers attack their legs too.

I think I remember hearing somewhere about spot on flea treatments helping against flies - I can't remember if I got around to trying this one or not.

Does anyone know if there is anything in this?
