Bullyisious
I would like to teach Our dog 5 Tricks for a course that I am planning to do. (That is the minimum requirement) Sit, stay and drop are concidered Basic commands and not tricks so what would you say would be your top 5 basic "Tricks" you would start your dog off with. megan_
Target touching (my hand, an object), then extend to touching the object with nose, paw etc. I like these because they are really useful for training other things too.
persephone
"speak" ? "fetch" ? "Crawl" ?

Bullyisious
Crawl sounds good, we are working on drop at the moment so I am guessing it may be a great one to go from there.
fuzzy82
My top 5 (the ones I taught first) were shake/high five, roll over, beg, crawl and high ten.
Kavik
Personally if I was doing competition obedience (which I'm not) I wouldn't teach tricks which might erode a drop stay position until that was well established (so crawl, play dead, roll over)
Bullyisious
Thats a point Kavik.. So I have done Shake and working on Drop so maybe Beg? I am not 100% sure what "Beg" is but I am sure i will pick it up!
fuzzy82
In that case you also shouldn't teach any trick that would erode a sit/stay, such as beg, high five etc. I don't really see an issue though. If the drop and sit is on cue and you ask for it and the dog plays dead instead, you just don't reward. It's all about stimulus control. If the drop is a really new behaviour then I wouldn't do a roll over or anything like that, but if the dog knows the drop and it's on cue I don't see an issue with it. Pretty Miss Emma
Shake Hi 5 Hi 10 Wave Roll over Spin Creep/Crawl Sleepy (they lie on their side from a drop as if they are asleep!) Touch/Target
Bundyburger
Havent been able to master the drop yet.. Soon as I bring the treat to the ground she just stands up and trys to get at it haha move it around between her front legs, if she stands up put it further back, and don't teach beg if you want to do obedience. Took me months to unteach beg from my boy after OH thought he was clever. I ask for sit, he'd sit, then beg *sigh*
