How accurate that would be is questionable as not all dogs in each breed are x-rayed, many breeders don't xray if they don't want to use a particular dog or bitch in their breeding program (for whatever reason). Dogs placed in pet homes may not be x-rayed either. Additionally, in my breed, the amount of paperwork that is given out compared to the paperwork returned to the club is quite significant. Some vets can read the xrays and will let you know 'roughly' what the score is going to be and there are some breeders out there who would rather a disqualifying hip score not be made public knowledge so don't send those results to the approved reader who in turn forwards his results on to the club.

I don't quite know what you're saying in this post?

Of course the information only relates to the dogs whose scores are entered into the database. Better than nothing I'd have thought. And if a breeder consistently x-rays and gathers information on their own dogs, they will have some information to go with.

I don't understand this -

Additionally, in my breed, the amount of paperwork that is given out compared to the paperwork returned to the club is quite significant.
? Individuals have access to the 'paperwork' which is given to them when they have the dogs x-rayed?

Obviously your breed works differently? The AVA scheme is a closed register, not public like OFFA, and the results are not published.

Sorry, just don't understand the context of your comments in the post.....

If you added xls to lils mum's original link you get a spreadsheet http://www.ava.com.a...ages%202009.xls

It has data until 2009 which I think is more current that the .pdf file?

Not too sure about this one as while it does look to have some more recent data, for my breed it only has 3 dogs listed as being scored (the one I posted has 27 and looks to be data from 2000 to 2004 incl). I know for a fact that more than three Pyreneans have been scored in the period from 2005 to 2009 and that there were scores both higher and lower than the ones mentioned.

Perhaps it only means NZ hip sent to aust to be read as there is no way the info for shelties is correct. I have scored dogs since 2001 with hips higher and lower than what is on the first link.

One of the problems owners in our breed have found is that not all readers seem to submit the results to the database. There is information on the forms that shows if the 'information will be shared ....' etc.

I know of a number of owners who have thought that the vet who is taking the films - AND supplies a 'score' - is one of the accredited readers and will be submitting the results to the database.

I guess it pays for owners to confirm that the scores that have been received have been submitted.....

edited to add a link to a page on Vic Dogs with info on the specialist referral resources - http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/AboutUs/News/CanineHealth.aspx

Our paperwork is different. It's not on AVA paperwork, it's on National Rottweiler Council of Australia paperwork and our scores are open for all Rottweiler Club members to have access to.

I don't know what you don't understand in my post

Thanks for that - so is it an ANKC requirement for registration? If the Council's scheme is based on the AVA scheme, is taht information also fed into the ANKC/AVA database?

Curious to know how it works.

Certainly for breeds which do not require scoring for registration, the breed average can be helpul I believe...

This was what I didn't understand -

'Additionally, in my breed, the amount of paperwork that is given out compared to the paperwork returned to the club is quite significant.'

Not all breed clubs have this requirement, so I was not sure exactly what you were meaning. Thanks for the further info...
