Puppy Tells Other Puppies Off

My pup started pup school last week and he has met a few friends vaccinated dogs. When other puppies take the play too far or get in his face for too long he makes a warning noise, not a growl but almost like a sharp bark - snarl.

Now i have only ever had a very aggressive dog and then my other lab and he will let anyone do anything to him and never tell other dogs off. So i guess what i want to know is it normal for a pup to tell other pups off??

Sounds normal. A puppy is just as entitled to tell another dog off if their behaviour is annoying. He may just be a more dominant dog than your current one so will have less tolerance of others. Just watch and make sure he doesn't do it to all dogs as that may indicate a problem.

He also raises his front paw when he makes the noise - if that means anything.

I always think when they use their paws it means "Now I've got something really important I wanna say, and I really want you to hear it!"

..if he's raising a paw.... what is his head doing ? does he sort of twist/roll it ? it may well be a play thing . Hard to tell just from a written description ...Ask someone experienced who can carefully look and assess before doing anything to change it.

Puppy school says he is fine but i am not 100% confident of the class i dont agree with everything they say. However he is starting our clubs pup school in 10 dsys time after his vac and the instructor is very experienced and i really trust her. He plays fine with some pups but others he will tolerate only up to a point.
