Every Day Training

For those of you who don't compete with your dogs do you train your dogs every day? What things do you train?

I do train my dogs every day. At the moment I'm working with one to accept having his nails clipped and the other I'm backchaining a retrieve so she actually puts things in my hand. I NEED to also train them not to jump on people at the door (lacking motivation for this though). These are just a couple of things as I'm also working on building a reliable recall with SUsan Garretts program.

Just interested in what other people train their dogs to do when they don't have a specific training purpose (like a dog sport)

My dogs get trained every day. It's really a fundamental part of spending time with our dogs for us. We take them to places we think they will have fun, but we want to be part of the fun as well, and there's a more serious aspect of what we do, which is to condition our dogs to be attentive in all environments. We teach them tricks and polish them. We work on duration, precision, and fluency of known behaviours. We challenge them and cheer when they successfully meet our challenges. We use Premack, R-, and loads of rewards. I'm currently working on whiplash turns and leave its in addition to the tricks.

with having a few dogs to train we do formal training as we do compete, plus we do trick training, Malika already knows her left from her right just after a couple of weeks :D

We have a Cavi X Chi who does a Merecat trick & he can set his own mouse traps to catch mice  he has not missed one mouse yet. This trick we did not teach him, he has done it all by himself

Our formal training is not done everyday most of our tricks are done just before they have their dinner & sometimes during the day

With Sasha I try to practice training everyday stuff we learn at obedience school. We have her advance exam this sunday ekkk. Also practice everyday loose lead and heel walking ( struggling with both) but she is getting better except for when she is super excited.

Also practice a few tricks I have taught her. So far it's just shake ( both paws), high 5, wave and crawl. We don't compete or anything but I do try to focus a bit on her obedience training.
