An elderly woman has been injured in a dog attack at Macquarie Fields yesterday.

About 2:05pm, Thursday 15 September 2011, a 73-year-old woman was walking along Third Avenue when she was bitten by a cattle dog.

Police have been told the dog was chained to a ute parked on the street when it attacked her as she walked passed.

She sustained bite wounds to both of her legs and injured her wrist when she fell to the ground.

The dogs’ owner and woman’s husband came to her aid after hearing her screams.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Campbelltown Hospital where scans revealed she had fractured her wrist.

Police have spoken to the owner of the dog and charges are expected to be laid. Investigators have also been told the dog was euthanized following the incident.

Having the dog on a chain long enough that it can reach outside the ute & have a crack at an older lady doesn't scream responsible owner.

I read it as chained TO a ute ..not IN a Ute .. I presume it was at ground level if it bit her legs ? Perhaps the owner was a tradie .. and secured the dog to the vehicle while he was working ? ...

The poor lady .. I hope she recovers without complication. What a scare!!

Unfortunately some breeds just seem to attract idiots and sad to say ACD's are one of them.

Must have been horrible for the lady that was attacked, not what you need at anytime, hope she recovers OK and hope the council takes action against the idiot owner. Do feel sorry for the dog who has had to bear the consequences of having an unthinking owner
