Hi All

I was always under the impression and from memory of my breeders test, you were able to register 2 litters in 18 months per bitch. Now I probably wont breed that in 18 months but a breeder friend who breeds Golden Retrievers says it has changed to 1 time in 18 months? I didnt think this was the case and had not seen am amendment anywhere, so wondering if someone can shed some light for me!

Many thanks!

This is being discussed on another list at the moment.

There is SUPPOSED to be a move a foot to be able to exempt Toy breeds that only have one pup in a litter to be bred more. (possibly those breeds that are supposed to have very numerically small litters)

To the best of people's knowledge that have been discussing this it is just a thought only at this stage.

Dogs NSW - Code of Ethics

4A. A Member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in eighteen months

without the prior approval of the Board of Directors except under extenuating

circumstances where application for registration of the litter may be considered by the

Board of Directors. 11/08

ACTCA - Dogs ACT

4. I shall not breed from any bitch kept by me before it is twelve months of age, and thereafter not more than once in each succeeding period of twelve months. Provided however that should it be necessary, through extenuating circumstances, to breed from a bitch twice within twelve months - I shall rest the bitch on the third season.

Victorian rules are "a member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in 18 months..."

anglesun is more than three times for NSW? are they different to VIC?

If you read the rule above, you will note that by allowing a bitch to whelp three times in 18 months, you are breaking the rule. It's just worded strangly...but it's the same exact thing. By not whelping MORE than twice (three times) it's the same as saying you can't breed a bitch to whelp three times in 18 months. Therefore you ARE allowed to breed to whelp a bitch twice within 18 month calendar period, however a third litter born even ONE DAY after that period, is fine according to Vic Dogs.

I believe that SA is different and the second litter cannot be before 6 months after the birth of the last.

So that a girl the cycles regularly at 6 months would not be able to have back to back litters.

Thats pretty hard to do even if you want to isnt it ? A bitch is pregnant for 9 weeks by the time they go home its 17 weeks - even if she came on heat within 4 weeks [and she wont] of her pups going home she still wouldnt whelp twice in 6 months.

Ok so for Dogs Queensland this is what we have.

I shall not breed from any bitch kept or owned by me causing it to whelp more than twice in

eighteen months;

My take on this is that your bitch can whelp twice in 18 months but not a third time?

Yep, absolutely correct.

You may do a back to back mating but not a third.
