Tara and Sam
Following on from another Dementia thread Tara is on Clomicalm tabs for about 2 weeks or so now and Hills BD dry food she has started messing inside with the runs in the last few weeks I read the side affects of Clomicalm and it can be a side affect ( they seemed to help her on the Dementia side of it ) Woke up Fathers day morning to a horrible runny mess inside plus she walked through it and walked it around the house I stopped the Clomicalm tabs that day and still gave her some BD dry she doesnt eat it every day , she picks at it when she wants I am coming to the conclusion that the BD is causeing her to have a upset tummy tonight she has messed inside about 5-6 times about a hour after some BD dry food she doesnt even indicate she wants to go outside , or even if we take her out and walk her around she comes back in and then does it last few days I have given her chicken and rice or fish and rice etc and taken her of any medication she was on to eliminate the source She does not like what she doing and it is wearing me down to the point of tears to see her like this Has anyone else experienced this affect with BD food ? I will be ringing Vet to discuss this with him but other peoples experience is appreaciated Thanks
persephone
have you tried feeding her only meat? Only chicken/pet mince ? That way there are no carbs .. and very little residue. It sounds a very unpleasant and undignified time.I would also be giving her some inner health plus or acidopholus....
Crisovar
One of my dogs reacted very badly to Clomicalm, once we took him off it he returned to normal toileting. It could be the drug could be the food could a combination of both. You may need to experiment to see which one it is.
JulesP
Sorry that you are going through this. I just looked up the B/D. Personally I think you are wasting your money feeding this. It has pretty crap ingredients and I just can't see how food is going to dramatically help a dog with dementia. It has certainly got some ingredients in it that might upset a dog's tummy imo.
