lovemymutts
there you are! lovemymutts and jacqui835 you two need to get together and start the ball rolling. I think the first step is to make a list of all the existing lure courses in Adelaide, because I think we should confirm that we can't use any of those before we try and make a new one. Also if we can have a list of everyone who would be interested - perhaps state your name and the breed of your dog/s. Skitch
Is the list being made only for large dogs? I'd like to be added to it if an Italian Greyhound would be welcome

Hafhafa Hounds
Thank you! She's from Baghdad Salukis, her registered name is Baghdad Cool Coquette. I imagine she would love lure coursing if an opportunity came up! My two have a Baghdad sire - Karim (Ch B. Last Impression). Moss: grizzle :D , Arella; blonde bimbo Can I ask what her breeding is? They might be cousins... Sonia
jacqui835
Ok that's 6 + the little guy (who of course is welcome). Now we just need to contact all the existing lure coursing set-ups and see whether they are willing to accommodate us. I am happy to call; are there any others that anyone knows of, aside from the Jack Russel one?
Hafhafa Hounds
plus I'm sure Insha-llah & I can rustle up a few more Salukis (& maybe a Pharoah....)!!! What about trying the Grey straight track that has already said it's okay - when the Greys aren't racing? Skitch
I was going to ring the JRT club tomorrow to find out about their lure coursing day, I'd be happy to ask them if they'd be interested in loaning out their equipment for use by other groups if that's helpful? Not sure what their equipment is like though, bit hard to tell from the pics
Esky the husky
I'd love to come watch if this does get up and running. I'm sure Esky would be up for a chase to, not that she's a sighthound or anything though
lovemymutts
If I can do anything, please let me know & if I can I would be more than happy to help Although I have absolutely zero experience with Lure Coursing :D
megan_
Found the little pamphlet thingy in the bottom of a Perhaps those of you with larger dogs could try giving them a ring and seeing if there is anything out there for you that they know of. These are the numbers listed on the website as well as on the pamphlet I got at the Royal: Telephone: (08) 8284 1792 - Mobile: 0449 752 027 lure racing is a bit different to lure coursing though. The reason they only let small dogs do the racing is that they have to start in small boxes. The boxes open and then they race in a straight line. The actual race is very short. Lure coursing is when they follow an entire course, one-by-one.

Yes, and coursing is usually thought of as a twisting course, to mimic the turning of a hare, whereas racing is either a straight line or circle but not twisting. You dont have to have starting boxes though, especially a new club just beginning, you can hand slip. jacqui835
Ok I will try calling those places today at lunch and see what I can find. I'm so excited! My dog is not a sight-hound either, but he loves chasing bunnies and he seems to be quite fast so I think this might be a good sport for him. jacqui835
Apologies guys, work is crazy right now and I don't even have time for lunch so I won't be able to call around today. If anyone else would like to, feel free, otherwise I will do it tomorrow.
Keshwar
Apologies guys, work is crazy right now and I don't even have time for lunch so I won't be able to call around today. If anyone else would like to, feel free, otherwise I will do it tomorrow. Here are some links you may find useful. http://nationalcoursing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1 http://www.dogs4sale.com.au/Lure_Coursing.htm http://www.qldlurecoursing.com/ http://www.afghanhoundclubnsw.org.au/lurecoursing.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lure_coursing http://www.asfa.org/ http://www.injoy-1.com/ http://www.lurecoursing.org.uk/ http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/d/ddoggone/Homepage/Burnham/1-rabbits.html http://www.akc.org/events/lure_coursing/index.cfm http://www.mahahounds.org/coursinginfo.htm We imported a complete lure coursing kit from Injoy. Cost about $2,000 including freight and GST. Good luck with getting lure coursing set up in SA. I really hope it works. I would really like to see Lure Coursing recognised by ANKC. So the more people doing it the better.
Kirislin
I'd like to see whippet racing recognised by the breed clubs at least but it's not.

I'm sure Esky would be up for a chase to, not that she's a sighthound or anything though Yeah, Akira would love it I think. So add Akira (Siberian Husky) to the list - she's the first one off and chasing something.
