Are There Any Trainers That Would Be So Kind As To Help Me?

I currently have an 8mo BC x foster dog who is on crate rest due to a broken back leg. Some people have suggested some things to keep her sane during this time, but I am having trouble doing anything with her. She is a very hyped-up, anxious dog who can't seem to concentrate on anything because she is so worked up all the time. She is always panting, whining, yawning and trying to climb on me! I would dearly love some professional help to get us on the right track. Unfortunately this girl is likely to need expensive surgery in the coming weeks so I just can't afford to pay someone. :( Is there anyone who would be so kind as to help us? I know its a big ask but I'm desperate.

I gave her some ace last night because she just wouldn't settle but it didn't seem to help much! Might need to increase the dose. I just feel so sorry for her. She should be on a farm herding sheep, not stuck in a cage. She has lead a very sheltered life so far - doesn't know what toys are, impossible to walk on lead, very anxious... The previous owners were an older couple - WHY would you get a working type BC if you are old and don't want to do anything with the bloody dog?!

Just something from left field - my young dog is quite anxious and has some troubles settling. At her worst she spent 4.5 hours of a 5 hour drive home from a weekend trialling standing hunched into a ball at the back of my car before she finally dropped from exhaustion. :(

The girl's sports Vet also does quite lot of alternative therapies and put her on some Chinese medicine, and she's a very different dog. The vet also gave me some specific rescue remedy for her when she's feeling especially stressy.

I didnt necessarily want her to calm down, I wanted her to sleep! She has been pretty good in the crate up until now but last night she just wouldnt settle. :( But I am concerned that 4 weeks plus of confinement is going to be very detrimental to this dog.

Oh I agree, I am just saying thats why I gave her ace last night. If she was healthy, I would be walking her and getting her out and about. As you would know pers, working dogs need to exercise their bodies AND their minds. She is not a terrified dog, just really highly strung and being cooped up is not helping one bit.

Is her pain being well controlled? This behaviour could also indicate pain.

I would suggest talking to the vet about medication if she's that stressed. Ace does not reduce anxiety and can actually increase some dog's anxiety. You could try a tight fitting tshirt to act like a thunder shirt. Tranquil paste may be something else to consider but talk to the vet first.
