My mini schnauzer have bladder stone and have surgery once.

Sine then, she is on Royal Canine Urinary and have no other problems.

Vet did mention that if RC does not work, then Hill's Science will be the alternative.

RC only reduce the amount of protein, maganesium and potassium. I can only get them from vet.

I do remember there is a warehouse name and address on the packaging. I can get it for you if you need them. :)

I'm not sure if this will help but Dalmatians need a low purine diet also, from day dot. When searching, maybe including the word dalmatian could help (as I see espinay did above).

The urine problems arise from the liver problem though. So you really need to feed a 'liver' diet rather than just a low purine diet. They are fairly similar though.

I think it is the toxins from the liver not working properly that cause any stone/urinary problem. Some dogs with liver problems need to stay on antibiotics because of this.

A liver diet also needs to be low in sodium and fat.

Affected dogs also need tiny regular meals. Approx 6 a day.

thanks Jules P and everyone

you know alot about the condition and everything you said is correct

dalmatians have the problem of urate stones like my liver dog the difference is

i have to also consider his liver in feeding

i currently have him on hills LD dry (soaked in distilled water0 he drinks only distilled

now, i give him ricotta , pasta occasionally, he also gets liver supplements and lactulose

im about to order an autofeeder so i can give more smaller meals

what food do you feed your dalamatian newsensation cleo?

regarding the vegetarian food that is not all i would feed him

its just to add a bit more variety to his diet

the hills ld is pretty much vegeatarian anyway (crap)

The tinned Hills is supposed to be better than the dry. The main 'problem' with the dry as opposed to the RC is the meat content in it. If you dog is ok with the fat in the tinned, then that is pretty good.

It is definitely the most 'crap' food I've ever fed in terms of ingredients but my dog thinks it is pretty damn good. She is putting weight on and has stacks more energy. And she is gobbling it up. I used to stand outside for ages waiting for her to finish eating.

I don't know if dogs know what is good for them but she certainly seemed to. She totally rejected the premium foods that were high in protein like Artemis grain free and Canidae.

She also used to get a fair few skin itches. They have totally cleared up as well.

I feed kibble and BARF patties. Kibble is EP Holistic Select in the process of switching to Black Hawk which is lamb flavour. THe Barf patties I use are mainly pork or kangaroo, the roo in particular has lower protein and lower fat. I used Combo once but it was too "red" meaty - dals shouldn't have red meat.

It's hard knowing what is "safe" and what isn't, and some of the "safe" foods I would not feed with regularity. So far I've done ok though!

I understand the situations are very different, just thought it might help find some info (maybe). I wish you all the best in finding a solution.
