Monah
Does anyone know what these are? thought they may be cukoo doves but the ID says not orange beaks but orange legs... these are around the size of a large hawk, about 45 to 50cm and there were 6 of them, too high up for me to see properly though....very large wingspan and no birdy noises.. I have not seen them in the garden before..

OSoSwift
We have a pair of Crested Pigeons nesting in our Wonga Vine. I have been able to watch them from eggs until now young adults. They quite often have a little rest in the grass just next to the vine but out of the wind. Gorgeous little things Edited September 5, 2011 by OSoSwift
corvus
Haha, I identified some photos almost exactly the same for my mum recently. Luckily her description of the size and the black edging I could see in the photo and the fact they were dropping things on her was enough. I like these guys. I don't see them much. Plus I'm a pigeon tragic for some reason.
Monah
They are really lovely Corvus and even though I spend hours in the garden and we have over 50 species visit regularly, I have never seen (or noticed?) these before. They fly slowly and majestically and look huge on the wing! Also extremely pretty!
corvus
I think they are nomadic, Monah. I used to see them sometimes in bird surveys in rainforest just above Wollongong, but they were rare. Easy to miss, though, because they can be very quiet and still in dense foliage. They are more common farther north, but still a bit hit and miss. I think they are beautiful, too.
