Guest DBT
Just what was needed in the current climate http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/man-hospitalised-after-dog-fight/story-e6frea6u-1226127459853 A MAN has been bitten repeatedly when a rottweiler attacked his pit bull terrier at Taperoo this morning. The unleashed rottweiler dog approached the man, 34, while he was walking his pit bull at a park on Echunga St about 11.45am. The dogs began to fight and one or both of the dogs bit the man's arm several times as he attempted to pull them apart, a police spokesman said. SA Ambulance officers took the man to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment. The stray dog ran off and its location is unknown, police said. Port Adelaide and Enfield Council has been notified of the attack and police are investigating. The attack follows the death of Ayen Chol, 4, who was mauled to death by a neighbour's pit bull mastiff dog in her Melbourne home last month. Her death sparked calls for stricter national controls on dangerous dogs, which differ across the states. Federal Justice Minister Brendan O'Connor said last week he would raise the issue of national dangerous dog laws with his state counterparts. fuzzy82
Why has the dog that killed the 4 year old suddenly become a "pit bull mastiff"? I noticed that the other day in a different dog bite story too. Does that mean it was actually a pit bull x mastiff, not a pit bull as previously reported? Or do they think there is a breed called the pit bull mastiff?

melzawelza
Fuzzy - the dog was a pit bull X mastiff, but the media can't bring themselves to add in the cross bit and since about two days in have left it out. I really feel like these two attacks that has happened since Ayen that have been labelled as rotties will be having the attention turned on them now. This is why we all need to stick together no matter what our breed.
Mrs Rusty Bucket
Surely the Adelaide story would be incorrect to identify the dog on lead as a "Pitbull". The SA dog and cat law declare them "prescribed" and required to be muzzled in public - so option 1 - not a pitbull option 2 - muzzled - so could not have bitten owner. option 3 - owner should be in trouble for walking an unmuzzled restricted breed. The owner of rottweiler would also be in trouble for allowing a dangerous dog (it's dangerous because it attacked a human and an animal) - to wander unleashed and unmuzzled. If they can find the rotti. page 6 and 26 are relevant or search on "prescribed breed" http://www.dogsncats.asn.au/webdata/resources/files/Dog_and_Cat_Management_Act.pdf
