espinay2 Posted August 31, 2011 Share Posted August 31, 2011 It can help to look for a private rental rather than through an agency if you can. They are often more open to allowing dogs. Also get references from your previous rental and neighbours if you can and build a 'resume' for your your dog (including vaccination and obedience certificates etc) . Make sure you cast your net wide and don't limit yourself to one area. Unfortunately you may also need to look higher and/or lower in the rental market than you would normally. I was looking for a rental for ages and people kept knocking me back because of the dogs, I acutally dealt with some really rude real estate agents, one going as far to tell me that I couldn't possibly have a tidy house and that it's unsanitory We now rent privatly and it's been fantastic. Does anyone have any further advice about what else to include in a dog resume? I've never had to do this before. I've got a toy poodle, so am planning to emphasise that she's only 4kg, and is (obviously) non-shedding. So couldn't really do too much damage even if she tried. Beyond that she's house trained, has some obedience training and perhaps including a pic, does anyone have any suggestions? Is it worth outlining that I walk her twice a day and that she basically sleeps while I'm at work, and only barks if someone knocks at the door? Or is that too much info? Thanks! Thanks! i'm going to have to go through the same process at the end of the year with my little pomeranian and i'm going to drill in the 2.8kg thing too. did she go to puppy pre-school or have any obedience certificates you can attach? can you offer to pay a pet bond, have references for her? i need to start thinking about this too :D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
3Woofs Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 My house has just been listed for rent and the real estate has a pet resume form that you fill out.... I thought that was a great idea. It got put up on the real estate's website yesterday afternoon and within the hr we already had atleast 6 cars stop out the front to have a look! Panto Posted September 5, 2011 Share Posted September 5, 2011 consider references from: groomer vet daycare neighbours (**this one in particular as this will put you in good stead and can be less subjective than the other animal oriented professions) previous agents/landlords (**a previous landlord was happy to provide verbal references over the phone - a godsend) ahhh... to not have to worry about all this though...
