panda
Hi, does anyone know what this might be? It's located on both of his elbows. The one on the right is not too bad, but I can see a few black spots appearing. I only noticed it today. He has had this for a few years now but it was just a bit of dry skin, it wasn't this red and it didn't have the black spots either. It doesn't bother him, but it looks bigger than before. I'm concernd about the black spots as I've never seen them before. Thanks Edited August 31, 2011 by panda
Guest Ams
They could just be pressure sores from him lying on them or it could be an infection. Apparently dogs sweat through their elbows so it could be a type of moist dermatitis as well. It does look like it could be quite painful so maybe a vet visit may be in order. panda
Thanks Ams. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. I will take him to see a vet just to be sure.
becks
Looks like pressure sores with a bit of dirt in the skin. have you tried getting some moisturiser on there and keeping him off lying on hard surfaces?
Polgara's Shadow
Could it be yeast? Is the area often moist? You could try some malseb shampoo on it and see how it goes..? Or for something gentler a Calendula tea wash.
