W Sibs
Well it's warmer now and Charlie is being more active. He spends a lot of time outside now hunting lizards, doing some weeding for me and just generally being his usual self... it's very good to see. This winter has been harder for him but he survived it (especially with lots of heated pads, beds, blankets etc). I'm going to get flamed for this but I no longer walk him on the leash. He walks way too slow for the leash now (he speed is slower than 1km/h) that it's not needed (also, there are times where I end up accidentally pull him and that kinda hurts him). He has a solid 'Stop' command and he can't walk far (50m is his limit). If I walk Emmy and Charlie together, we walk with the stroller. We start of in Charlie's pace (he has to work for his stroller rides) and end up walking Emmy's pace the rest of the way. He was put on diet and now lost half a kilo and he seems happier with the lost, despite giving me hell when he was on the diet  He goes to specialist yearly now for xrays (Yay!). He still on metacam and he gets that about 3 or 4 times a week. Other from that.. life is very sweet for Charlie Edited August 31, 2011 by CW EW
persephone
Sounds as if he is doing OK with his limitations He's a pretty lucky boy!
bluedeer
Wouldn't think you need a leash (I don't think he is going run away ). Can't blame Charlie for not liking a diet, who does :D
W Sibs
Yeah. There are times where I know he is frustrated that he can't do what he really wants to do (like run after Emmy faster!) but that's easily solved by distracting him with something else. I'm looking forward for summer because I'm going to let him swim more. He is faster in water than he is on land...

Loraine
Fantastic how well he is doing all things consdiered. I don't think I would be having the lad on a leash ether. He is one lucky doggie with a Mum like you and a sister like Emmy.

Pollywaffle
the exercise he has with you..with/without a lead is a lot more than most people give their dogs..you, like most DOLers, are a credit to dog ownership.
